HI, I want to be able to use the factory locations in my '95 Plymouth Voyager. The doors do not have cut outs for speakers, so I want to utilize the dash locations. Although not the best choice for imaging, I would like to know if anyone has any suggestions for tweeter placement without cutting up the dash area. The seperates that I am installing are the JL Audio XR525-CS. Thanks for all your help. Mark Replies (8) Ash on 05/3/2006 18:44:07 The most recommended install for tweeters is a flush mount. Since this is not a option, the next best thing is to make pods (complex for inexperienced) or a simple surface mount. As far as location, I suggest you hook them up and with a long enough wire, place them in various locations to see where they sound best. A-pillars or the far corners of the dash are a good start. Velcro with a self adhesive backing is good to use for temporary installs. Try various angles aiming them towards the listening area, each other, or even the middle of the windshield. Once you find the "sweet spot", then you make a permanent install with the included screws. ttocs on 05/3/2006 22:47:46 what if you mounted the mid in the factory location, and then surface mounted the tweeter to the top of the factory grill? I don't think it would necessarily look the best but it would put both speakers on the same place, and make install simpler. magicmarker40 on 05/4/2006 06:43:43 Hey guys, thanks alot for the information!! I was thinking of the A-pillars, too. Thanks for the tips on the angles, too, that was giving me a hard time, trying to figure out what is the best and how to secure them once I found the best place. Thanks again swez on 05/4/2006 09:44:22 If you go with "A" pillers, try aiming the tweets so they fire just below the rear view mirror. This position allows the tweets audio to bend along the windshield and gives a neat imaging affect. Try it out and see for yourself, as a temporary mount solution. If you like it, make it permanent. Swez magicmarker40 on 05/4/2006 10:24:28 Hey Swez, Thanks for the information! Would you custom fabricate a panel for proper mounting to the A pillers or how would you attach them for proper imaging affect? Really appreciate your input! Thanks ttocs on 05/4/2006 10:35:26 you can do a custom panel with flush mount tweeters. This would be more difficult then surface mounting but would look better. I agree with swez that you should wire them up and try them in different locations to see what you prefer. you can use double stick tape to hold them for the time being, once you find a place you like them it only takes a scres to hold them, and a hole to run the wire through to surface mount them. magicmarker40 on 05/4/2006 11:26:49 Great idea, maybe the junk yard would have some panels I can play with... This is the first time I have been on this site, have been on others and asked questions, no one has replied, I am very impressed with this site and the professionalism! Thanks ttocs and swez What do you think if I did cut holes in the door panels and mounted them in there? What is behind the panels in that van, do you know? Do I want to open that can or worms.... swez on 05/4/2006 16:39:28 I did that in a Villager mini-van a few years back and it worked very well. It was a company leased vehicle, so I did not do a lot of fancy "A" piller work on this install. Mounted them up high on the door panel and fasten them with two sided sticky tape. It worked like a charm too. Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
