replacing a factory Bose system

I have a 2000 Cadillac Seville with the bose premium sound and the onstar system. I am wanting to install the system that was in my 2001 Firebird. It is an Alpine CDA 7977 head unit, 4 Focal 6.5 speakers powerd by an Orion XTR 500.4, and a Kicker L 10 powerd by an Orion XTR 375.2. Can someone tell me what needs to be done to tackel this install. My mane concern is replacing the head unit without screwing up a bunch of computer stuff on my car. THINK

there are alot of things that are multi plexed with the deck. What that means is that if you take the deck out, you have to do some rewiring to get these things to work. There is an adaptor for the onstar that is needed to keep it working.

On a car like that, I have to ask what your experience is? What have you installed before, are you comfortable getting into the guts of your caddy, and then putting them back in correctly? It is a nice care and a very nice system. If something goes wrong, most places will charge you to fix what ever is messed up, and then charge you to install it.....

Hi ttocs Thanks for the reply.
Well I am no pro by no means, but I have installed many systems. I am very picky and cut no corners. Every thing has to be perfect or it doesnt get done. I installed the system in my Firebird and every one thout I had it done by a pro. Even a local car audio store said it was a top job. Im sure I can do the job on my Caddy if I have all the proper info on it. Do you think I should leave the factory system in it? I doesnt come close to the one I want to put in it as far as sound and power.

I am definitly not saying that you should leave the bose system in... You might however consider leaving the factory hu however. With loc's or bose converters you can still add all your amps and speakers, but save yourself a world of time by not having to rewire and bypass all the additional gear. If you are not happy with the sound after they you could consider upgrading the factory radio.

I have considerd leaving the factory hu in the car. Then I think about how good the Alpine sounds. I dont mind all the extra work, heck it will give me something to do for the weekend. All I am worried about is what goes threw the factory hu other than the Onstar and the warning chimes. Im not sure that I even want the Onstar. I did find out that PAC makes a product that will allow me to be able to use my stearing wheel controls with my Alpine

that is a neat device too, it takes some tuning from what I understand, but works well when done right.

Goodluck and let me know if we can help, or how it turns out...

I would suggest at least starting by keeping the stock HU, just as ttocs stated.

I did the same in my Altima, but was having a really hard time not putting in my old Nakamichi deck, as I love everything about it.

I finally decided to install the speakers, amps, and subs, and then if I wasn't happy, I'd go back and tackle the deck. To my surprise, I ended up selling the Nak, as I was so pleased with the Bose. I do know, that you will most likely want to bypass the factory amps, as this seems to be the place they kill the SQ.

Realistically you should be able to try this route, without adding much time, if any to a complete overhaul.

Hi Tray
I am thinking about keeping the stock hu. Did you bypass your amps? If so Im sure you had to run new speaker wire. The only thing I can thik of that will take much more time is installing the alpine and that really isnt so bad if I can find an install kit for my car (something I havent had much luck with). Do you know where I can find one? I have thought of going to a junck yard and getting the plugins off the radio and making a jumper harness for the factory hu and just leaving it hooked up in my trunk. This way I can keep every thing.

I did have to run new speaker wire, but with an amp installation, that is common anyway.

I don't know exactly what you have, but it looks like Peripheral may have something that works.

I can't think of any more at the moment, as my brain has apparently left for the weekend already.
