I need a lot of help.

I have no idea about audio systems whatsoever. So I need some help if anyone could do so. I have a 1994 saab 900s and I have a 1600 watt amplifier, a 700 watt subwoofer, and two large 6 X 9's that can take 800 watts total. I want to hook this up in my car, but I do not want to blow my alternator or battery or anything. So I need to know if it will run on my 90 amp altenator without stressing it too much or if I need to buy other materials..... If I do what would I need? Thank you for anyone who could help out.

We need the amp, sub and speaker make and model #. With that, we can press onward.

PS Is this a stock radio used now or an Aftermarket one? Make and model # if aftermarket.

Ok It is an aftermarket sony xplod, CDX-SW200, the capacitor is a GR gravity, The subwoofer is a Pyramid, PWFX107, the speakers are legacy,LS6930MC, and the amplifier is a cuspid, AM-4310. I appreciate the help thanks a bunch.

This should help you out a lot. Read it and look at the pics too.

This amp is nowhere near what it proports to be. If you look at the fuses in it, I can determine the approximate RMS power output for you.

Since it is a 4 channel amp. you can use the front amp channels to power your Legacy speakers. Use the HPF (High Pass Filter) set at 80 Hz. This passes all frequencies above 80 Hz., to your full range speakers.

The rear channels can be bridged for more power to this sub. It's rated at 300 watts RMS, is a single coil, 4 ohm, 10" sub right? The rear channel filter should be set to LPF @ 80 Hz. This passes only bass signals to the sub.

As for wiring, this HU seems to have RCA preamp outputs. Not sure how many though. Is it 1 or 2 pairs? The other option is to use the rear speaker leads to feed the non-RCA amp inputs. (The pigtail with 4 pair of wire leads that plug into the high input section of the amp)

The last thing needed, is to run your main power line from the BAT + terminal, to an inline fuse (of correct value) and fish that wire back to where the amp is located. Once we know the amp fuse values, can tell you what size wire and fuse to use. Also, you need a short ground wire from the amp to bare metal on the floor pan. That wire gage should match your power wire.

PS Once you have everything installed, we'll help ya set up the amp gains.

The fuse inside the amplifier is a 15. The fuse says 15, so does that mean I do not need a new alternator? My alternator is a 90 amp, and 77 amps are used to power all the electrical. Ok what do you mean by bridged ( i am a real novice) and the sub is 300 watts rms and all that so that is correct. I know how to hook up an amp I just don't know how to wire the speakers and subs but I really appreciate your help I am starting to understand... Thanks a bunch.

Actually, what it means is that you need a new amp & sub. There is no way possible to get decent power from this amp to do what you would like it to do. As for the sub, unless you have a manual, there is no clear instructions nor parameters to see at least what it is meant for.

I do have sympathy however, for I hate to see anyone not get what they want or at least what they thought it was. My suggestion is to cut your losses and part with all of the above and maybe we can help you find something that will work within budget.

Am glad you brought that fuse issue to light. This amp is an abosolute wimp and is not able to deliver the goods well either. This amp is about 25-30 watts RMS per channel. It won't even make a good paper weight, much less a boat anchor.

Can you see yourself upgrading to a respectable power amp system here? The speakers and sub noted are just 'OK' too. You can work with them for now, but it would be to your advantage to upgrade to a better 4 channel amp, get some decent speakers up front and power the front speakers and sub, off a decent 4 channel amp. The rear speakers are just rear fill and can be powered off the Sony HU amplifiers.

Ash is right on here. Cut your losses... sell off what you can and put a realistic budget together. Consider brand name amps like Alpine, HiFonics, JBL, Infinity, MA Audio and several others I can't think of off hand.

The Boss products are NOT what they appear to be on paper. It's like putting a 60 HP motor in a Mustang GT. Performance will be lousy, compared to the cost of materials and labor time spent.

What say you?

PS Have a good look at offerings from this web dealer. They have very good products and very reasonable prices too.

I agree also. Don't degrade the saab with bad equipment although I am sure an 800 watt 6 x 9 would have to sound like, something.

There is alot of "snake oil" and BS in car audio. If you don't know what to look for we will be happy to help.
