Need help with car stereo

Hey guys! I just joined here to ask you experts a question. I am freaking out about my car stereo because my hubby ripped out the factory installed one, and then never installed the new one. He is now on his 6th week in marines boot camp so he is not able to fix it. My grandfather & brother have minimal knowledge about car stereos. They're great with everything else though.... Anyway, my husband tells me that the CD player we have is missing a small plug or a clip that goes into the back of the player that supposedly comes with the stereo when you buy it and hooks into the adapter in your car. This said clip/plug thing is missing. Is there any way to replace it or do I have to purchase a new stereo? (We had this problem before and went out and got a new stereo) Or is there a possibility I could get one from one of you or secondhand? Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated since I am quite ignorant of the workings of car stereos and I would love to have music again.

Thank you guys for your time!!!

He might be referring to an adapter harness that allows one to hook up aftermarket gear to the stock electricals on the factory radio. They are cheap and easy to find. Here's what to look for:

You can find them at Best Buy, Circuit City, WalMart and car stereo install shops. Also, if this car does not have the Premium Bose package in it, most anyone that is handy with electronics and car wiring can install this for you. If not, am sure you can get it done for a reasonable price by shopping around. I would think $50.00 (plus parts) will get er done.

Good luck,

heh, it's a sony, I don't do anything but sony when it comes to sound. I don't think it is the harness either because we bought that - it's the plastic frame that goes around the deck, if I am correct? We have that, maybe I just need get someone electronically talented to look at it :)

Ok looked at the picture - my hubby has those already hooked into the hole in my dashboard - he got those a few weeks before he left. GRR, I wish he would have finished it for me!

there are three parts that you will need to install the deck. The deck itself(of course), the din cage, and the hrns. The din cage is just a metal rectangle that the deck slides into, and it should have been on the radio when you unpacked it new. There are a couple of small clips on the side that when you released, the deck will slide out from the front. The cage will mount directly to the dash, there is no kit needed. Once you slide it in there are some metal tabs that you bend with a screwdriver or pick that will lock the cage into the dash. At that point if you hrns is wired you should only have to plug in the hrns and antenna and slide the deck in.

Also, sony makes some descent-to-great video and home video, but they have never really been known for great car sound since they got rid of the ESN line YEARS ago........... Feel free to hit us up for product recommedations as well as install help. We are always happy to help point you to the place that will save you the most money while getting the best value.

OK, you have the wiring harness already. The mounting hardware is lacking. Looks like you'll need this:

Video clip on install info. Pretty basic info though. The install fact sheet has the details needed to go step by step.

I talked to my little brother - I did need a wiring harness, but he says that I have all the other parts and he will put it in for me as soon as I get tha part.

I had no idea sony isn't the best for cars, I purchased the deck 2 years ago on sale I think...

well guys thank you very much for your time, I will let you know how things work out!

Sony makes great TV's, home stereo gear and Video gear too. But when it comes to car audio products, they are just not up to par with Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine, Eclipse and several other Japanese brands.

Good luck,
Swez

we are not saying that they are bottom of the barrel, just that there is better out there for the same price.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can do or how it turns out.
