Best way to attach attach a 4 gauge wire to an amp

hey, this might seem like a strange question especially since I already have a system in my car but first time around I did everything really bootleg so now I figured I'd clean up my job a little. So I have 4-gauge running from ground to amp and batt to amp but then first time around I had trouble cuz the wiring kit gave me the 4 gauge and the spade connector things but the 4 gauge was way too huge to fit in the spade connector so I pretty much jammed it in and then put the little rubber cap connecting the two and electrical taped it all up. So now, (without yelling at me for an amateur please) I'd like to know what the real way is that I should connect the 4 gauge to the amp. Thanks.

Make your own connectors with copper tubing and some large diameter shrink tubing.

The copper tubing (~1" long) will need to have a large enough I.D. to accomodate the #4 wires. Just insert the wire ~3/8" into the tubing and solder it. (probably need a propane torch)

Then, pound the other end out flat and tool that end to fit your amp lugs. Once all fits tight, take a 2" section of shrink tubing and cover the wire jacket, solder and copper tube. Leave enough of the tooled end expose to fit well into your amp wiring lugs.

Steps:

1. Cut off insulation to expose 3/8" of bare wire (twist it into a tight barrel)

2. Pre-tin the wire with solder (60/40 Alloy, rosin flux)

3. Clean the tube inner diameter and pre-tin it too

4. Heat up the tubing and gently insert the pre-tinned wire until you see solder melting on the wire

5. Slide the shrink tubing over the copper tube and over the wire to about 1-1/2" (do this when the tubing had cooled or the tubing will shrink before you get it back to the wire jacket)

6. Pound the open end of tubing flat with a hammer

7. Drill an appropriate size hole for your lug screw to fit and tool it down to proper width to fit your amp lug connectors

Pretty simple huh?
