Swez noted that the MTX Thunder 6000 15"s that I have may not be the best bang for my buck. So I started looking for more deals to explore on Ebay. Take a look at these and let me know what you think, as a substitute for my current MTXs. (200 Wrms/sub) I did suggest Alpine and add JBL, eDesigns & now Infinity. (Reference, Kappa or Perfects) The Kicker line up is fine for large enclosure setups. They are similar to the older MTX 4000,6000 & 8000 series in that respect. Swez lessismorespl on 04/18/2006 10:43:52 Why not consider using one good 15, such as: MTX 8500 or 9500, JL W6 or W7, etc.. vs going w/ 2 subs, if your space is that limited and you want some serious bang for your buck you can use one 12 or 15 in a ported/vented enclosure and run it at it's rated RMS and have just as much bang as you would w/ 2 subs in a sealed enclosure.......just a thought. less Black_Rob on 04/18/2006 14:52:44 I am actually kind of looking for older subs that are not used. Ebay has a lot of "old stock" that hasnt been used, that you can buy for cheap. For example, the 2003 version of an Alpine sub as opposed to the 2006 version. It saves a lot of money. The old ones work fine in my opinion. Any old model subs you would suggest? swez on 04/18/2006 16:16:47 That's a bit more challenging, but I can see why you'd go that route. However, the main dilema here is wiring flexibilty. Many of the older subs are 4 ohm or 8 ohm SVC's. If you go with the 2 channel amp, a pair of 8 ohm SVC's is a perfect fit for a bridged amp. Many SVC's in that vintage are low power. (200-300 watts RMS tops) Now, if you shift to a Class D amp, now you'll want to shift to a net 2 ohm load or find a used JL 500/1. This amp can put out 500 + watts RMS @ 1.5-4.0 ohms. Now, you can go many directions in this mode. Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
