hello i just baught 2 diamond audio 10's and they are a dual 4 ohm voice cooled and i need to know how do u drop the ohms to boost up my max rms power they hit alot harder then solo barics ever could so im trying to keep up in good shape so please help me Replies (8) UKinstaller on 04/18/2006 10:11:41 well, unfortunately the only wiring options you have are 1 or 4 ohms. since most amps aren't 1 ohm stable, you'll probably have to run them at 4 ohms, which is series wiring. what kind of amp do you have?? -UK lessismorespl on 04/18/2006 10:36:52 exactly, very few amps are true 1ohm stable, just b/c they have a 1ohm power rating does not mean they like running @ 1ohm....let us know what kind of amp you are running and so we can give you an idea. less swez on 04/18/2006 10:38:49 It all depends on the amp you are using. What is the make and model # of your amp? Class D Mono amp, 2 channel amp or other? Swez ttocs on 04/18/2006 11:34:31 UK- it would be a series-parallel wiring. Putting them in series would net a 16 ohm load. MrBrownstone on 04/18/2006 13:20:40 I would say that most all class D amps rated at 1ohm are quite stable. 1ohm stable is really more of an AB term used to let people know if their circuit protection will come on or not. heat is also a factor with ABs. With class Ds, they are really Ok so long as you are not overheating it. swez on 04/18/2006 16:22:57 That is the key aspect in a Class D amp... heat. The lower the ohmic load, the more power can be developed by a given amplifier. However, the trade off is how hard the amp has to work to drive that load. The harder we drive an amp at 1 ohm loads, the more heat it will produce and eventually, the thermal protect circuits will shut down the amp. Look for a new/used JL 500/1 Class D amp. This amp is unique as it does put out rated power at all loads between 1.5 - 4.0 ohms. If your subs can handle the power, look at the JL 1000/1. Swez lessismorespl on 04/19/2006 11:32:04 This is very true, there are many amps that statem 1ohm stable in the specs, but do not operate well under 1ohm loads. Some keep going on/off protect mode, others simply just go right into protect. It is the same w/ Class A/B especially when bridged. In my 20+ years I have found very few that can actually run w/out problem or going in/out of protect mode @ 1ohm. less diamondaudio4ever on 04/22/2006 00:15:55 well i got 2 phoenix gold class D 800 watt mono block amps wired to both my subs for the maxx out put i just never knew how to drop ohms or even how much spl i could get out of my subs but i know wut ever i hit its gotta big sum pretty decent numbers Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
