So how much should I be looking at spending. Im not very up to date on car alarms. Basically I just want something to go off if somebody tries to get my stuff. I dont need one that talks to me or tells people to step away from it, lol. Heres an example of one I found.... http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Python-Security-System-Python-460HP-/sem/rpsm/oid/119440/catOid/-13097/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do Would this be worth the money at all? Replies (5) lewis on 04/11/2006 01:32:23 that is basically what you need. it has the dual stage shock sensor which will warn for light taps and full alarm for more severe stuff. you might also want to add other sensors too (glass breakage, or proximity) and possibly a backup battery. make sure you trust the people installing it. i had mine done and had to completely re-wire it because they didnt do it right (not fun without the wiring diagram for the car) but if you just want a basic system that should work great. Black_Rob on 04/11/2006 02:00:19 Is it a good idea to get them installed at Best Buy or Circuit City .. or would I be better off going with a specialist or auto shop? lewis on 04/11/2006 08:32:57 it depends on who you trust more... bestbuy (dont have any curcuit city's around here) tends too be a place that hires people that dont have much experience. on the other hand they do a whole lot of installs and you pretty much know they arent going out of business just in case there is a problem down the road. specialty car audio shops tend to know more about the products and do better work (in my opinion) but you never really know. they are usually a little more expensive but also more willing to work on price with regular customers. you also never know if they are going out of business. its really just a matter of preference either kind of place should be capable of installing it properly but unless you actually know the people at these places you never really know what your gonna get ttocs on 04/11/2006 11:33:55 after working for best buy for a number of years, check out your local shops........... Ask how they make their connections, t-taps(NEVER!), crimp or solder. MrBrownstone on 04/11/2006 12:52:50 go to a custom shop. special request where you hide the brain, etc. make sure it's damned near impossible to uninstall the alarm. Also, if you do an alarm, don't be foolish by announcing what equipment you have in the car with stickers, etc. Dark tint on the windows is a dead giveaway, and also, be intelligent with playing your system. Nothing says rip me off like blasting your toons right before you park your car. Other than that, go with a pro, and get a high quality product. Cheap alarms that go off all the time because the sensors are 'too sensitve' get ignored. All they do is annoy the neighbors, and don't deter the smart criminals anyway. If your goal is to protect your stuff, don't tip off people you have anything. Install everything behind closed doors, or drive a long distance to have it installed in another town. If your goal is to protect the car from being stolen, having sensors that only go off when a break-in is being attempted will be more effective. If they really want it, they just bring a tow truck, and tow it away. It's that easy. Not knowing you have an alarm or equipment may surprise the small-time chumps and keep your car in your yard. I had a friend get his entire car boosted with a Viper system, and it was because they towed it. His alarm went off every time someone drove by it was set too sensitivel to be taken seriously. The fewer false alarms, the more legitimate chance a car alarm will be taken seriously. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
