well after my recent break in im finally getting everything sorted out and starting to recieve my parts and cash to replace and reinstall everything... now im trying to figure out how i want to install it (hidden, mild or wild). i decided im going to give fiberglass enclosures a try. ive already ordered my speaker rings (didnt wanna make 5 attempts at the right sizes and perfect circles). i also did alot of research on the process and im pretty sure i know what im getting into. i just wanted to know if anyone has done this and if there are any suggestions for a first timer? i was also considering motorization. this is something im not set on but i would like to consider it. im pretty sure i could figure it out (havent tried researching it yet) but figured i would ask if anyone knows anything about it and the best places to buy supplies (dont wanna spend $300 on an actuator) Replies (5) swez on 04/7/2006 08:12:23 It seems that a stealth install along with a good alarm system would be a good thing to consider, based on the "smash & grab" experience already. However, if some peeps know you have a system in that car again, you'll need to make it "very difficult" for them to locate and remove whatever you use the 2nd time around. Care to explain what you have in mind so far? Swez lewis on 04/7/2006 08:37:11 well for the sub boxes im going to fiberglass them in the areas between the tail lights and rear wheel wells and run big bolts through the floor to keep them from going anywhere. for the amps the origional idea was to flush mount them in a false floor in between the subs (they were flush mounted when they got stolen). then i thought about motorizing them from pockets behind or under the sub boxes. if i go this route i would be able to hide the amps when the car is closed up which would make them alot harder to get out. after thinking about it i dont think ill really be able to hide the subs unless i do a spare tire well box (and i dont really wanna do that). im also looking for screws and bolts that will require special tools to take out. swez on 04/7/2006 08:51:32 Very good thought on the hardware ammendment. Use these fasteners on both the enclosure and the subs. Use Tee-nuts when possible here and metal grill covers. This will slow them down and/or frustrate most amature thieves. However, that also leads to another issue... "If we can't steal it, we'll smash it up good" !!! A sad thing, to say the least huh? Unfortunately, these little " Crack-headed bastards" have no respect for other peoples things. MAD Swez lewis on 04/7/2006 17:52:19 yes they may smash it but it sure would make it alot easier to deal with the insurance company because i still have the system. i got lucky this time and found a picture that i uploaded online about 2 years ago. the guy who sold the system to me remembered who i was and pretty much what i had bought and gave them a call for me (the reason i love small shops). if the insurance company had required the receipts i would have been screwed because they were lost when we moved about a year ago swez on 04/7/2006 18:00:45 Right, always make a file and keep all your receipts and manuals in the same location. Then, you'll always have it, if something goes south. Keep pics and serial #'s too! Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
