A JBL GTO301.1 (294 RMS @ 2ohms ) will soon be going into a 2003 nissan primera estate/wagon. Where is a good place to mount the amp, i would rather have it away from prying eyes, maybe under one of the front seats or somewhere near or in the spare tyre well. Am i right in thinking that i will have to run a new power cable from the battery, and if so how will i control switching the power on and off? If i need to run a small fan or two (to cool the amp if it is in a confined space) where should i draw the power for it from ? (same cable as the amp or will that create noise problems) I dont think that the amp has a soft turn on ,is it a good idea to use a capasitor in the powerline to stop a thump when power is switched on? Wiil the amp need to be cooled by a fan if it is mounted under a seat? Are sheilded RCA cable required or not? Any other advice? Regards JMB Replies (4) lewis on 04/6/2006 00:38:53 do you know any places to get some interior pictures of that model car?? ( i looked for about 5 min. then gave up) what are you powering with that amp and where are they located in the car? what head unit are you using? (factory or aftermarket) swez on 04/6/2006 01:09:53 This amp should remain cool under most conditions. Under the seat is better then a tire well, unless you seal the tire well against water leaks and have sufficient air space to ventilate. Yes, you will want to use a #8 gage power line from the BAT, an inline fuse near the BAT. Your fuse will be 40-50A. Ground should be #8 on this amp too, grounded to bare metal on floor pan. The HU should have a REMote turn on lead if it's aftermarket. Some have a power antenna lead too. Do not use that as the CD player may not turn on your amp. RCA's: Use a good quality set of coaxial RCA's from HU to amp inputs. (Meaning, quality jackets, low loss cables) It is best to install the power line on one side of the vehicle, the RCA signal lines on the other side. Finally, if you even think you might add a 2/4 channel full range amp later, use a #4 gage wiring kit. Swez PS This amp does not have speaker level inputs. If using a factory HU, you will need a Line Out Converter that takes rear speaker voltages and converts them to RCA, line level inputs. Swez JMB on 04/6/2006 15:16:14 The amp is going to power a GTO1204D 12 inch sub, it will be in the boot/back. Its my brothers car, he has a sony HU CDSX2210S i think. swez on 04/7/2006 08:40:36 That sub is well matched for the amp mentioned. It's recommended sealed air space is 1.0 cf and includes driver displacement as well.
