Change in Plans!

Wuz up Fellaz? Been a little since I've been able to have some input, but now I have a new project of my own.

I recently acquired a close out on 3 new pairs (6!) of Audax VP170G0 midbass units for a unbelivable price ($48 shipped!). Since I had already ordered two pairs and installed one in the family van previously, I figured what the heck. I was able to find a pair of the same series in a 4" as before so now I am able to install identical setups in the van and Blazer alike.

In the Blazer I have already put a set in the doors for a quick audition and the clarity and detail is excellent, though upper midbass is a bit dry. That is due to me not rear loading them nor using any deadening material either. I'll go back and do it later when I do the full run.

As for now, I plan on running them on my USB-4065 comboed with a MTX RT-X01A 2 way crossover to assemble a 3-way comp setup. I let a friend have the MTX in a trade at one time, but bartered with some install work to get it back. No moulah wasted there!

The high pass on the MTX will control the 4"s @400hz and up through the USB's front. The amp's x-over only goes to 240hz, so it will be defeated. The 4"s will be either in the kicks or the dash (more simple). A tweeter with passives will be combined with the 4" to complete the set.

The low pass on the MTX and the high pass on the USB will be used to bandpass the 6.5" from 70-ish hz (whatever sounds good) to around 300-350hz.

Another set will be HU powered and simple passive control for the rear doors. Probably won't need them, but what the heck. At the price I got them, it won't hurt.

I think this will be what I'm looking for and to boot at a extremely minimal investment with a spare set of the Audax' for replacements.

Whatcha think?

That sounds like a nice project in the making. The Audax 6.5's in the lower door panels, 4" MR in dash and tweets where you like em.

Bi-amping? Sure, why not. With well matched crossovers for mid/highs and a proper bandpass for the MB drivers, should be a very nice project.

Put on the ol THINK -ing cap,
Swez
