Okay I have a 2001 Chevy Impala LS and it came with a factory amp and I was trying to find out how much the wattage or the output is. THINK

factory head units put out about 12-14 watts RMS, i'd say that your factory amp is somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-24 watts RMS to each channel.

there is no reason to even really rate the amp in the deck. If you are wondering if it has enough power to power something, it doesn't.........

I just have this image of a 15" spliced into the factory wiring......

Does the number really matter here? It's either adequate or it's not. Most GM models have used Bose Premium systems for audio upgrades. Ford uses JBL and Chrysler is now using Infinity and soon they will offer Boston Acoustics packages.

The stock speakers are often the weakest link in any stock system. Stock speakers are very cheaply made, designed for average listeners and the package costs are way more then what can be achieved with quality aftermarket products and much lower costs. That's the way most car makers view audio packages when they package a car.

Now, knowing all this, what would you like to do to improve what you have now?

I was just asking because I was wondering when my new speakers come in ( Audiobahn AS65Q 6.5's for the doors and Audiobahn AS69Q 6x9s) whether I should hook them up to another amp or just let them run off the factory amp.

i would run another amp b/c you can set your gain so u can turn it all the way up with out hearing distortion or even so u dont blow your speakers. on my 89 cougar it came w/ a fac amp and i went to the local shop and got a by-pass for it and it was only like $20. that made a big difference even though it wasnt as loud but it made it sound alot better when i turned it up.

they will sound better with more power(insert grunt) but probably sound fine off the deck. I would try the deck unless you have an amp layin around.
