Yeah... that's good man. Funny though, these are pretty small bass for that part of the country. They look like 4-6 pounders class fish. Compared to the 12 lb plus bass found in the deep south, these are actually pretty lame.

I got an email with pics the other day about a catfish that was not able to go under water, as it had swallowed a BASKETBALL....... If there were not pics, I would have not believed it.

I recall an article about 2 divers that were in charge of clearing the intake vents to a dam in some region along the Mississippi River. They went down about 40 feet to clean debris away from the inlets. The water clarity was very poor that day. (basically visability was about 18 inches)

Anyway, the guys dive down and start clearing away branches logs and various other organic materials. While down there, they stood at the base of the dam on what they believed was a huge log. When they tried to dislodge that log, it turned out to be a huge Channel Catfish. They estimated it was over 6 feet in length, the head alone, was the size of large diesel truck engine.

When they figured out what was actually down there, they high-tailed it for the surface and got out of the water. They refused to go back into the water until this monster fish had been relocated to a different part of the back waters or captured and penned up until their work would be resumed.

That one heck of a big fish dude!

PS Think about it... you're 40 feet down, standing on a huge fish that won't budge 'cause all the easy food it gets in that spot. Channel Cats have been known to eat small animals and children while they play in the muddy waters of an old river. That's a scary thought.... not even funny!

Holy Sheetbowls!!!

Those are whales!!!

Yeah, now try to imagine a 6 foot "flathead" that weights maybe 200 lbs. That's what those divers found last fall.

That sounds like a good one fer the mythbusters. I have heard stories like that as well while living back in indiana. We had an aluminum processing that feed recycled(purified as far as we knew) warm water back into the river. I heard about the same thing as swez but it was in indiana.... I believe it either way.

I have NEVER been able to understand people liking "fiddlers". Its basically the rat of the water world....... HAVE YOU EVER CLEANED A CATFISH?????????? Nuff said.

MrBrownstone on 03/30/2006 10:53:03
They are both the garbage collectors and the cockroaches of the water.

swez on 03/30/2006 14:36:04
Indeed, but some folks really like catching them. I dunno why though. It's like hooking into a log that swims.

I did catch 2 nice size Bullheads last summer on a fly rod too. One was pretty large too. (Both over 6 lbs) These suckas just swam around the river in the currents and tried to hide in a log jam. But, I did manage to get them in. Took a good 15 minutes to land them too.

When I got my light on them and saw they what they were, I just cut the line and let them go back where they came from. Bullheads have barbs that have a nasty sting to them. Since I didn't have a landing glove, forget it! Not worth the bother or the risk.

However, they did feel just like slow moving tennis shoes, filled with mud & water. They'd swim back and forth the river, took a few runs out about 30-40 feet at a time and I had to walk down after them as I spooled up my line.

The hard part was walking this stream at night. There are many large, submerged bolders and logs in this river. You cannot see them well and stepping around them while tugging a fish was a bit hair-raising. All in a nights fun though. Can't wait to get out there and tangle with the bass agin though.

I only rarely get to play in streams at a couple of trails with creek crossings. I normally try to hit them as fast as possable and try to stay on the tops of the rocks. There are a few cases like this where the faster you go, the smoother it is.

Gettin ready to throw my bike, camping gear and dog in the truck for a race tomorrow. It should be perfect spring desert weather, 70's and sunny, 50's after dark(perfect for campfires). I am looking forward to the actual race as well as just getting it over and enjoying some silence. I had a different race last weekend(at my favorite trail, got 3rd), and the week before that was a 3 day group ride. Sitting here thinking about it makes my butt hurt, I will have ridden close to 100 miles off road this month(my bike shows it!). Between all this riding, working my regular job as well as at the shop a day er two a week, I need some rest.

I have a buddy that might be headin out to San diego next week that I could tag along with. That would probably end up a drunken party with mr b and his girl MANny.....

swez on 03/31/2006 08:58:55
Why not? Just don't expect much from Mr. B on coming through on the female entertainment thing. I think he "bluffs" more on this one then he gets away with at the poker table.

Hint: Have you ever seen any pics of Mr. B with any of his girls? After all these years knowing Mr. B., I have yet to see the real deal, much less a female sitting on his lap. Noone, not one. Zero, nadda, zip, zilch.

Take it for what it's worth,

Due to the PG13 content of this site, I'm unable to send you pictures of my naked girlfriends sitting on my lap. :-)

If it makes you happy, we have 2 card carrying lesbians next door...and they are really friendly.

swez on 03/31/2006 16:41:39
Figures huh? Uhmmm, you have my private e-mail though.

And, how would I know it was actually U anyway? Man of many mysteries and disguises.

The neighbors are friendly huh? Well I suppose so, as they don't have selfish boyfriends to fight with.

You might try dressing up like a goil and dropping by with a gallon of Tequila in hand. That might break the ice?

I was thinking of being the meat in their love sandwich...they've become quite frisky lately. :-) maybe it's the spring.

I agree with swez, take the easy road and get them drunk.....
