well...
i found some extra room i want to put a mid-bass driver
but i'm a lil confused about what to buy...
my first thoughts were on the Fosgate P2 sub...
but i've gotten negative response to this and people are recomending a mid-bass driver instead...
where do i find these mid-bass drivers and how do they differ from an 8inch sub?
are mid-bass drivers free-air? or do they need a box like an 8?

Depends on the T/S parameters of the speaker in question. In most cases, a low frequency speaker will perform best in a matched enclosure, for a give MB driver.

More speakers are not the whole answer. Optimizing the ones you have, can be.

Sub vs mid bass...what is described there is the frequencies that are being sent to the speaker...not what the speaker is.

All speakers are classified as woofers, tweeters, etc. Two 8" speakers are 8" woofers. The 'woof' implies that you are sending lower frequencies...but that doesn't mean that speaker can't play to 5kHz. At one time Memphis had an 8" 2Way system that sounded very nice.

In any case, adding a speaker just because you have room doesn't mean it'll sound better. Adding a speaker because you have a need might help.

Box...likely need a woofer enclosure..although some are designed to run free-air (in a door panel). Tell us a lot more about your entire speaker system.

A very potent Sub / MB driver for a very cheap price, dunno how they managed to put this one together in terms of price / perfomance..

Dang, check out the excursion video clip for this little beast!

For the price, ($50.00/ea.) I cannot see how they can make much profit on a sub with these specs and features. Sure beats th crap out of all OEM and most Aftermarket drivers in this class.
