Ground Loop Noise

here's the deal...
i just hooked up my second amp to my system...
and because of space restrictoins, i have the amps grounded to different spots... now i get a hissing/wine noise that rises and falls with my RPMs... is this ground loop noise?
if so-
will grounding the amps to the same spot eliminate the problem?
thanx-

Yes, this is a common problem associated with "ground loops" and sometimes, improper gain settings on an amplifer.

When installing multiple amps, always use a common grounding point to bare metal. If needed, use a grounding type D-block to insure you have a good ground.

Also, in a few rare situations, I have see some low budget amps with poor noise isolation circuits and cheap preamps. Most familiar brands don't often present this issue. However, some of the off brands can be and are more succeptible to noise problems.

Try grounds first OK? If the problem persists, then we need to look at several aspects of your gear and installation techniques.

PS What HU are you using here now and is it grounded to floor pan or firewall now?

the HU is an older Kenwood, and the Grounds are to the floor pan... when i get my car back this afternoon i will try and fix it, and of course- i will keep u updated...

When you can, as you can, please advise your progress.

HU, amps and other audio chain processors work best when grounded to a "bare metal" surface. The floor pan is usually a good option as this is one of the largest ground panels in a typical vehicle.
