rear deck speaker disconnected

i have a 2000 honda civic coupe dx and i recently bought it. The owners said the rear deck speakers were disconnected. I was wondering how i would get it to work? The wires are connected to the speaker itself, but i think the problem is with the connection to the head unit. Im not really sure if the right wires are connected to the speakers because there's a bunch of them that are lying around

What make and model number radio (HU =Head Unit) is in there now? (Factory stock or Aftermarket?)

The previous owner probably had and amplifier installed for these speakers and that may explain all the extra wiring. Say more on you present setup and someone can walk you through the steps to get your rear speakers working again.

the speakers are factory and only the front speakers work.

the HU is an aiwa cdc-x427

Good, it's an aftermarket HU. This HU should deliver a solid 22 x 4 watts to 4 ohm speakers. Not a big screamer, but adequate in a small car.

With a little luck, the HU wiring harness is already hooked up with all 4 facory speaker wires. If there are extra factory wires in the back, they may have power to them when the HU is on and playing.

Factory wires often use color coded wiring. The solid color is generally Pos and the striped wire is Neg. You may wish to grab a test speaker and see if any wires in the rear bundle offer speaker output. If yes, you are home free and just need to use the L/R balance to figure out which wire goes to the appropriate speaker.

If there is no power to rear speakers off any wires noted back there, you will have to remove the HU and figure out which wires feed the rear speakers, connect them to harness as marked and then match the wire colors you saw in the rear deck.

Hope that helps,
Swez

PS See if you can find an installer's manual from Awia web site. This will help you figure out the proper wiring for all speakers, power and ect. The likn below is only the user's manual. You may have to contact Awia Tech Support for the Installer's manual.

okay, i have tried connecting all the wires but no luck. How would i take out my HU and what would i look for to connect the right wires

I wish to defer that answer to one of our Pro Installers. (UK INstaller and ttocs) They do this kind of stuff on a daily basis. (I do not)

Some HU's are mated to an ISO mounted chassis and things just slide out with a few clips and tools. Other mounts are more complex. So, to be on the safe side, wait for a response or make a new post and let them walk you through the HU removal process.

I am not familiar with the aiwa's specifically, but you should be able to slide it out from the front with the correct "keys" that normally come with the deck.

Did they give you those?

You can take the dash apart and pull it, but it is more work in that car....
