HU Display Lights

Has anybody here ever changed the LED's in their HU's to match their dash and instument pannels of their cars? I have an Alpine CDA-9813 and its one model below that has custom display colors. I want to change it from green to red or blue to match the lights on my VW.

If anybody has done this or think its worth trying let me know.

Jay

Not sure you want to step into this one bud. If the LED package is an array of surface mount chips, mounted on a tiny display board, this could put your soldering and technician skills to a test that would leave most folks with a pile of junk.

Have you ever tried to open the face panel on newer HU's? That can be a feat of pateince and dexterity, all by itself.

Proceed with much caution,

I believe there are some people on the carsound.com forum that have done it, and may do it for a fee. Try the install forum there and be aware that the forum has some of the best installers around, and the best installers almost always have a big ego, and thin skin. It is not as friendly a place as this forum.

I would not dare mess around with the lights the way you wanna,

#1 - What if it doesnt work out ( you land up with a pile of junk )

#2 - What about the warranty issues if something goes wrong? ( Alpine definitely wont entertain you )

#3 - Is it really worth that risk , time, skill, money and hard work ? ( I definitely would not think its worth it )

#4 - Agreed that there are some of the best installers and techies around that could do the job ( but would I trust them??, who wud be held responsible is something goes wrong? )

#5 - Are there more options ( yes, I could try and sell it and switch it with a newer model that has customised display lights as well as many other features, probably spend just a few more bucks then getting the lights changed)

I guess thats all I have to say on this..comments..??

Victor..
