how do i hook up a engine noise suppressor? it has 3 heavy wires on it 2 out the front 1 out the back does the red and blue hookup to + and - of my battery and the other end onto my amps power wire?? Replies (2) Swez on 07/30/2003 19:26:49 That's a tough call without install instructions or a data on the device. Most suppressors are a combnation of Caps & Coils. They suppress engine noise by filtering noise out of the electrical system to the device they connect to. Ie: HU, amp etc. They usually have a power rating as well. So... if you hook to battery, then to power feed line, may toast the filter. Have a close look at your grounds before you attempt to install this device. Grounds need to be to bare metal in body/floor pan. This includes amps, coprocessors and HU. (if an Aftermarket HU) Poor grounds are ~80% of all noise problems. Also, having some separation (2-3 feet) between RCA lines and amp power lines is a good install technique. If there is noise in the power feed line, it can easily transfer to RCA lines as humm, hiss, whine etc. Finally, check the amp gain settings. If amp gain is set too high, (sensitivity of <1 volt) noise and signal are both amplified together. Mid point settings of ~2.0 volts will usually do fine. If the HU can do more than 2.0 volts, then dial your gains closer to 4.0 volt sensitivity range. Good luck, Swez ttocs on 07/31/2003 10:04:45 you should be able to fix the problem without the noise supressor. I have never had to use one, and never seen on that worked. It will limit pwr to your amp and could make things worse. I agree with swez, how are your wires run? I had horrible noise in a system years ago that was fixed by seperating the rca's and the pwr wires. The ground is also a possibility. How is everything ran? What size and brand wires are you using?
