Factory digital AC - stereo component

2003 mercury sable LS 4 door sedan. It looks like the AC and the Stereo are one unit and are completely electric ( no knobs or dials, just buttons for climate and sound control). I have 4 6 x 8 pioneer 4 ways I want to install. they have 91 db sensitivity and 260 watt max and I would like to put an amp in the car to power the speakers. The man at circuit city said the head unit can not be removed because it is some digital thing and he would have to put new deck in the glove compartment if I want a new deck. It seems pointless to get a new deck to me. Will an amp work well with this kind of factory stereo?? how much wattage should I look for in an amp for the speakers with the factory stereo? Will the sound be Good??

Thanks
Dale

I am not familiar with that model of car and stereo, he may be right. UK will be in shortly and better at answering it. There are many ways to integrate into the factory radio and still get good sound.

I have a faq in the faq section regarding this, although it needs some updating with some of the new toys that came out.
