Anyone have experience with a 2004 Kia Spectra (new body style) HU replacement? Obviously, there isn't a "working" dash kit for one as of yet and a friend of mine wants to replace the stock HU. I offered to help, but only work that will not void the warranty of the vehicle. By the way before anyone suggests Metra products, I checked around on the net and found some bad reviews of their kit's fit. This might explain why even Crutchfield isn't offering one yet. THINK Replies (3) UKinstaller on 02/21/2006 23:48:53 kia only makes like two dash kits - one for the new sorento's, and one for every other one. the kit you need is metra part number 99-1003. (if it's not 1003, it's 1002 or 1004 or something like that, i can't remember the exact number) it's really hard to mount properly and really, really ugly, but unless you can drill out holes for an iso mount, you're stuck with it. the hu is a pita to get out, too. if the car doesn't have a tile wheel, which i've only seen 1 out of probably 15, then you have to drop the actual steering column to get the dash out. -UK ttocs on 02/22/2006 00:28:15 There is always FM modulated changers and sat radios to make it easy. There are alot of ways to integrate into the factory deck to avoid mounting pains What is he wanting to do? Short term or longterm?. I used to know kia's in and out when I was installing in the midwest. I was just thinkin that I don't know the last time I worked on a kia. Back then I thought it would be cool to work on cool cars, I dunno now.. Seems the cars in scottsdale are always some kind of high end PITA...... Ash on 02/22/2006 18:24:21 It's to be a permanent upgrade, so I suggested the dash work be done by a local reputable shop. This way if it doesn't turn out like she likes it, they have to deal with it. I will generally be responsible for amp, wiring, and speaker/sub setup. I played it smart! Any other time I'd jump on it, but since this car's dash is a known pain..... I hate to see anyone get overcharged, but sometimes you gotta pay for security.
