depends. what kind of head unit is it?? if it's a like a monitor or navigation or something like that, then it could definitely be true, because some companies require professional installation with their products.

i think eclipse requires professional installation, not sure though.

Might not be a bad idea if you have not done them before. Depends on what kinda fee they charge.

The owners/install manuals usually state the terms of the warranty or contact Panasonic Customer Service and get some input from them ot their Techs.

I am not fimiliar with the scions as they came out after I quit installing full time. I am sure we can find someone one on here that could walk you through it. To my knowledge panasonic has NEVER required it be installed by a dealer to allow you to use the warrenty.

all I can say is that it's usually worth $35 to $40 of frustration to let the little weinie install your head unit. Time, expertise, and just dealing with dashes are not worth my time--and I've done over 100 or so of them.

If I do a new system, I'd pay a guy to do the head unit and run wires for me. If you've never taken apart your dash, it could be between a 1hr job and a 4 hour job.

I agree with ttocs, because i don't recall anyone ever having a problem with warranty with panasonic....Eskips, maybe

thanks for all the help

we are not really recommending that someone pay for the install are we???????

Not at $400.00 !!! That's just plain rediculous to pay that kinda dough.

However, if one does not have the tools, skills and a degree of patience and the factory dash needs lots of modifications to fit this one in, maybe it is best to let a Pro do this phase... but at a reasonable fee.

Question? Does Panasonic demand this HU be installed by a reputable PAN dealer to insure full warranty?

lolz, it seems like you guys perfer letting a pro... do it but i have installed my own hu b4 on my old car it wasnt that bad. i think i just need the toyota and up wire harness and singal din bracket kit and match wire for wire for wat it says... am i right ? thats how its done? the cheapest that i found that head unit was like $340 shipped

In most common vehicles and HU installs, some here can walk you through it w/o a glitch. However, if we are not familiar with that vehicle or product, it's just not kosher to offer too much advice and have things go wrong for you.

Then, you are mad, frustrated and left hanging on a hacked up dash install. None of us want to see that happen, on your dime.

Crutchfield offers some pretty good Tech/Install Support when you buy from them. Yes, the prices are generally higher there, but these folks do support their customers well. That's an option on the dash kits and harnesses too. They may be willing to give you adequate info on HU installs too, even if you did not buy it from them.

It's worth a try,
Swez
