hi, im about to install my own car stereo, im just wondering if someone knows that XF falcons have adaptors for the wiring harness to connect aftermarket stereos. or can some one tell me how hard it is to cut the harness and change the adaptor? Replies (14) bojo on 02/11/2006 06:19:31 it looks like i mite be getting Sony CDX-S22S $149 6X9's $89 6in $59 (extra $70 for splits) Sub 1000w (500rms) +box +1200w amp $299 all sony gear these prices are in aud. and if anyone can suggest something better or something i may have overlooked please say, i dont want to spend enormous amounts of money, but i still want an okay system. im also hoping to self install, i have a good understanding of electronics, but any tips would be most welcome ttocs on 02/11/2006 09:17:20 I don't even know what a falcon is to know if there is a harness made. Unfortunatly we do not have many members that are our of the US. Maybe victor is more familiar with them then I/we are. compvr15s on 02/11/2006 09:26:32 please do not purchase this equipment yet, let us help you out here, sony is not a very good mobile audio maker, head units are ok but the rest of there equipment just has not caught up to everybody else....looks to be about 600 dollars worth of equipment correct, if you read around on this site for a while and just trust the people here, we enjoy helping people get the best for their money, we would not recommend anything that we dont think will perform good for your needs... lets start by setting a budget, you listed 600 dollars, do you want to start there, the more the better but 600 dollars will still get you a quality system that will blow that sony equip away..... doing the install yourself will save some major cash, and is not very hard at all, nothing that we couldnt walk you through here, (remember no question is a stupid question)... ok let me see what i can do for 600 dollars head unit: thats ur choice personal preference here are a few in that same price range that are a lil better brand than sony http://sonicelectronix.com/item_3535.html pioneer http://sonicelectronix.com/item_3298.html alpine http://sonicelectronix.com/item_3487.html clarion this site give free wiring harness and install kit with their head units, so you may be spending a lil more on the unit but prolly still saving money all around. speakers front and back: http://sonicelectronix.com/item_2024.html alpine $130 http://sonicelectronix.com/item_4284.html boston acoustics $120 http://sonicelectronix.com/item_3571.html kicker $130 all these will out perform the sony's that you mentioned rear speakers: not necessary, many people dont use back speakers, will save money or can be used to purchase a better set of components upfront or even a small 2 channel amp to run the fronts http://sonicelectronix.com/item_43.html alpine $70 http://sonicelectronix.com/item_114.html audiobahn $50 pretty much any speaker back there will give performance but you will get better imaging if you elect not to use rear speakers, this is also a plus cuz then you have pretty much two ports for your bass to come through from the trunk.... sub and amps: add the low end to the system, really finalized a well designed system... this is also a personal preference so many good brands to choose from, i will list a few that will blow the sony sub away http://sonicelectronix.com/item_2175.html alpine $95 http://sonicelectronix.com/item_4281.html alpine $120 http://sonicelectronix.com/item_5777.html infinity $80 http://sonicelectronix.com/item_3647.html infinity $120 http://sonicelectronix.com/item_4814.html boston acoustics $110 http://sonicelectronix.com/item_951.html here is a sealed enclosure for $25+shipping, you can build your own with ease if you has some wood working skills and the ability to get your hands on some tools, can be done fore under 25 dollars, no shipping charge will save you some cash..... sub amp: most of the sub woofers i mentioned were pretty high senitivity which tells how loud the woofer will be with a given amount of power.... 86-88dbs and above are going to be what you want to look for, the more efficient the better, takes less power to get the sub to bump... here are just a few, looking for around 300-350 watts rms at 2omhs http://sonicelectronix.com/item_3490.html hifonics $135 http://sonicelectronix.com/item_4931.html audiobahn $120 http://sonicelectronix.com/item_6276.html mtx $140 http://sonicelectronix.com/item_1720.html alpine $150 oh and for wiring an 8awg should work but if you plan to do any upgrades later a 4awg kit would be best to go with.... http://knukonceptz.com/productDetail.cfm?prodID=eKo-K4 4awg $22 http://knukonceptz.com/productDetail.cfm?prodID=eKo-K8 8awg $14 ok so here is a couple of choices, id say around 460-470 plus the price of a head unit, whichever you choose, and that includes rear speakers, if you decide you dont want to use back speakers, you will save some money.... i cant tell you how much shipping will be but the good thing about buying from soniceletronix is that your stuff is under warrenty atleast 1year from the website, but they are also authorized dealers for many brands so you get full manufacture warrenty.... if you were to buy this equipment from a local store you would be spending well over 1000-1200.... you could buy off ebay and maybe save some money but ~70% of the equipment is not covered, so if something goes wrong sorry charlie.... just remember the more money you can spare the better, always room for upgrading, its always best to buy equipment that you plan to use for the next couple of years, will never equal out if you just keep trying to upgrade every 6months or every year, buy better now and save money later..... but to be honest with you i would put any of the equipment i just showed to you into one of my vehicles with out any hesitation, and gurentee it will do better than the sony equipment....if you do happen to have spare money, use it towards front speakers, usally the price is a good indication of the quality, what i listed is entry level, but will still sound very good, but as you increase your budget the sound of everything will only get better... good luck, and if ya have any questions at all just ask, we are here to help everybody, compvr15s on 02/11/2006 09:28:50 oh my bad i did not know you were out of the states, i should have known from the vehicle, i do not know if the sites i listed will ship to you but its a starting point anyway, maybe you can find some online stores that are in your area.... good luck bojo on 02/11/2006 10:49:30 yeah you see the problem maybe here is the difference in the dollar here and tehre, what you say mite cost 500 will probably cost me miniumum of 700, however any and all recommendations will be good, i was a bit suss about the sony things, as people have said they have been goign downhile, the upside is those sony components come with a 2 year manufactureres warranty. however i would rather prefer quality over warranty (and volume), and id want to install this all myself, i figure im goign to build this myself, cause a head unit and basic speakers, cost as much as that whole set up off sony parts installed. i have an idea of how it all works, but please explain it as good as possible, maybe even recommended parts, and then optional ones if i cant find that. also with a head unit, i want minium mp3 cdrw playback, however mp3 is a very lossy codec, but i dont see anything having better support. i would like to have the option of adding a screen later (dvd playback), and playing of mp3's of dvd discs, hardwired remote would be good too, but if it gets too expensive i will stick with cd rw's. i have easily a month to wait before i would like this setup, so im trying to plan it now, what i listed was a quote from a store i drove past the car isnt a very flash car, but i would like to have decent music when i drive it, the standard fm radio and speakers dont have the same effect as a nice flat setup. bojo on 02/11/2006 11:11:13 if its better, i will ditch the back speakers, i would actually prefer this, as to put the 6x9's in the best place it would involve cutting part of my car, Alpine SPS-171A 6-1/2" Alpine CDE-9845 Alpine MRP-M350 Alpine SWR-1242D just these alone 828.16 AUD, that is shipped, and is missing somethings im sure. of course i was just selecting alpine because i know they are a good brand, however shipping to where i live is around 300 in my money, so that site wont work, as it is over my budget just on shipping. shame, that kind of setup sounded good bojo on 02/11/2006 19:10:21 reviewing them all, i really want the Alipine $120 sub, so im goign to look aroud for one here, what kind of amp would be best to drive it?, and could i buy an amp, that would allow me to connect a second one later on?. i figure i will only get front speakers, not back ones, what kind would be best here, as i will only have a sub aswell. I think i will drive these of the head unit to begin with, and when i get the extra money, i will buy them a 2-channel amp compvr15s on 02/11/2006 22:23:04 two power two of those subs your looking at 800-1000 watts to utilize these woofers, i would say go with a single 500-600 watt amp and just run a single woofer... then later down the road you can always upgrade enclosures, you can go from sealed to ported and gain 3db of spl, same as if adding another woofer, this will change the performace of the sub tho, it will not be as tight and punchy but will be louder and deeper... if you do desire 2 woofers later though, you will want to get daul 2omh version so you can run the first woofer at 4omhs to your amp, then when you get the second woofer down the road you will still want a dual 2ohm sub but your will now be down to a 2omh load, so each sub will still see the same amout of power. if you want to run just a single woofer go with the dual 4omh sub and wire it to the amp at 2omh load..... always see systems with two woofers, but that is not needed, just cuz you have double the amount of subs does not mean you get double as loud.... many systems with a single woofer can be amazingly loud and would make people think that you are using more than one woofer... if it was me i would save up as much money as possible, get the head unit of choice, run a decent set of components upfront, if you plan to keep using the head unit to power the front speakers try to find some with really high sensitivity, then even if you do get an amp later on this will make choices a lil easier, not as much power will be needed, higher sensitivity the better...then i would go with a 500-600 watt class d amp(designed just for sub use) and the alpine type r sub, and then build a box that performs to the music of choice.... or even better could build a ported enclosure with a removable plug. so when planning on listening to music like alternative, metal, stuff like have the plug in, then when bumping to hip hop/ rap or want to be loud, remove the plug and get the deep booming bass.... bojo on 02/11/2006 23:54:19 okay i like the alpine type r sub, would the alpine speakers be good in front? is 90db good enough? or would u go higher? and they should work okay from the head unit to begin with. http://sonicelectronix.com/item_2024.html im thinking maybe i will buy realli high sensitivty speakers, and a really good head unti to beging with, and inquire about the alpine type-r. problems is, im not sure about head units, they are confusing as hell, the main use if gunna be music, so id want stronger pre-outs, and probably cd-rw mp3 discs, so i can have one disc with a few hundred songs. while i could build a sub enclosure, and have researched it all, i think i would be much happier getting one that is meant to work with the alpine type-r. then again, by the looks of the shops here, they will probably charge heaps. i wonder if you guys could help me make a shopping list, and ill go looking for these parts and how much they cost. i can tell the alpin type-r will be kickass, so thats what i want there, though any subs that are just as good ill write down as alternatives. along with amps that will work well with them. i want to start this properly, so i wont have to buy new front speakers etc later, maybe only amps to improve their sound. thanks in advance bojo on 02/11/2006 23:59:21 ohh btw i dont need to bother with back speakers? UKinstaller on 02/12/2006 20:55:43 check out my article in the articles section about hardwiring aftermarket head units into factory wires without having a wiring harness. -UK bojo on 02/13/2006 04:17:01 i have to say once thing ouch... the alpine stuff there, shipped is like 1000, it would easily cost me over 1500 to buy stuff from here!. i may have to just get the sony stuff, its a good deal compared to others. for example, 300Rms sub with box 300! NO AMP. the sony one was around 500RMS box and amp for 300. saw a class D 500RMS amp in a store for 1000!, and that was its on special price :S. ohh and wiring the HU in doesnt seem to hard, that is a very good article, of course the less cutting and solering i do the better, so i will still look for an adaptor. im begginning to think that this may not be worth it. bojo on 02/13/2006 05:43:41 http://www.sonicelectronix.com/wishlist_bojo thats my wishlist from sonic, im gunna put it in a cart and calculate the cost. thats my attempt to make my own stuff, im very open to someone changing it, specially the amp, becasue im not sure if its the write one for me. bojo on 02/15/2006 18:40:05 bump Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
