Pros and Cons to 5Ch Amps??

I was wondering what the drawbacks to 5ch amps were. I think I have heard some bad things about them but don’t remember exactly. The specific amps I was looking at were:

Autotek SX-5750 Amplifier 75 Watts X 4 Channels & 200 Watts X 1 @ 4 Ohms 100 Watts X 4 Channels & 350 Watts X 1 @ 2 Ohms

HiFonics ZX8000 Zeus 50W x 4 + 200W x 1 @ 4 Ohms. 100W x 4 + 300W x 1 @ 2 Ohms

XTANT X603: Watts per Channel @ 4 Ohm 2 x 75 + 1 x 150 @ 2 Ohm 2 x 150 + 1 x 300

The amp would run 4 pioneer components (for now) and a 12” Alumapro Alchemy 300rms sub. The reason I was looking at these was because even though they are not cheap they would cost me about the same as getting a 4ch and a 2 or 1ch sub amp of somewhat lesser quality. Also if it’s worth getting them, which one of these three would be best. I could get the Hifonics and Autotek for about the same price and the Xtant would be a bit more.

P.S. I wanted to thank everyone on this site and especially Swez who was been sooo helpful with all my questions. Although good advice is priceless, as soon as I get this car over with I will make sure to contribute with what I can.

Thanks for the kind words friend...

All amps mentioned are all very good brands and the major advantage to a 5/6 channel amps.. all in one wiring plan.

The down side... if you loose one channel and the amp has to go in for repairs... NO SOUND AT ALL for weeks. Unless you have a swap return warrantee plan.

Also, check the power demands of these amps for the power that you have available in your electrical system. HiFonics is a great Class A/B amp, but tends to run hotter and draw more current than other comprable amp designs at same power output.

Do your homework on power draw for each amp you are considering, then weigh them all out in features and performance so you know each amps' strenths and liabilities.

Ifyou need some help sorting this all out (technical jargon and specs) just provide web links to the amps you like best and then we can review same and comment.

That would be wonderful! Keeping this site adequately funded, insures benefits to others that come after you. Thanks man!!!
