Hey guys.. i need some trebble..ive got loads of bass, and i was thinking to get rid of the 2 front spaekers..(they are 4 '') i currently have some old kenwood 4'' in there, and its just not working out..what can i use for a nice, clean trebble...i need a pair... Replies (14) compvr15s on 01/25/2006 20:22:50 runnin these off your head unit or a seperate amp??? either way you will want some very efficient speakers. do you want to stay with that size speaker or have you looked into some kickpannels that relocate to the floor for better performace an sound... if you go that way you can go with larger speakers say 6.5 inch coaxial or even component to really make ur vehicle come alive. after you answer that that we can look into some speakers that fit your needs. good luck lilschtive on 01/26/2006 18:07:23 the 2 front are not running on my amp..there might be a stock amp somewhere, but im preety sure its just upgraded speakers w/ the regular system..i cant use a kick panal so i need to stick with the same size (4 inches). they are cheap on ebay, so i most likely need a nice pair that will bust out the lyrics, sharp and clear Ash on 01/26/2006 20:23:14 You are talking about a Mazda truck, correct? "Lil", I've got the same truck and I can tell you any upgrade in the stock dash location is almost not worth it. Regardless of what you put in there, you will not get the full benefit from it for they are aimed down towards your knees. I bought a nice, expensive pair of Memphis or Fultron (very similar) 4" coaxials w/swivel tweeters for the front and rear. Even amped, the front was still easily drowned out by the rears and imaging was at worst. Kicks would be a lot better but, the computer/module on the passenger side will have to be relocated. Of course, this could take some work. Another option is to see if there is a opening behind the door panel near the lower front that will at least fit a 5.25". If so, you could trim the panel around the opening and add a baffle onto the panel. A simple shaped baffle could be made of .5"-.750" MDF and carpeted or vinyled to match the interior. Wiring to the doors using that option may have to be a thought out task to avoid shorts if there isn't any electricals already running to them. Either way will be better. If you choose to go with the stock locations, try not to expect too much out of them. The rears sit right at ear level and only add to the problem. One more thing, the rears are a bit oversized even though a 4" will bolt/screw in. Some material (dynamat or similar) will be needed to cover the gap around the basket. Think about it..... lilschtive on 01/27/2006 14:06:19 ok yeah the reason i could not do a kick panal is because it could not fit for my truck. i did nto find any panals that would fit...do you know where i can find one? i see what you said abiou8t the front speakers and i belivev it. i have 2 kenwood 4'' in there and i thought they were stock :\. in the passenger seat on the bottom right is a little area that could house a 5.5 im guessing...where do yuo have speakers in your mazda? got a picture? ( i love loking at other 87'' mazdas") Ash on 01/27/2006 20:32:34 Sorry, I don't have any pics to show you. Perhaps you could do a google or other web search to see if anyone has done a kickpanel mod. I doubt you will find a prefab, for the truck is older. That space in the bottom rear of the doors is not a ideal place to put any speaker. The seat will muffle most sound coming from that location. Not to mention imaging will be bad too. You will want your staging to at least seem like it's coming from up front at ear level. I never took the time to look behind the door panel to see if there was a opening that could hold a mid. I just left it like it was because it was just a work truck. It wouldn't hurt for you to take the panels off to see. With any luck, it might just have one. Most usually do. If so, measure the opening and depth to determine what will fit. Then follow what was mentioned earlier to install some. If and when you decide to look, let me know and I'll give you some further assistance. Or, if you still want to try to stay in the dash for simplicity's sake, a decent pair of low sensitivity or attenuated silk tweeters mounted higher up might help. I say silk for they tend to produce higher midrange and when positioned correctly, they will help pull the sound up away from the lower dash. This tactic can help "fool" your ears into "thinking" that the dash speakers are up higher and more in the open. Good luck...... swez on 01/28/2006 14:40:56 Cardomain has pics of older B series Masda PU's. Have a look here: http://www.cardomain.com/MakeModel/Mazda/B-Series Swez lilschtive on 01/29/2006 23:20:15 hey guys..my friend bought me 2 blaunkput 4'' speakers for the front..i got them for $10. (hes paying the other 30) if they dotn work out, i can put them in the door and have 4 speakers! Ash on 01/30/2006 05:25:03 Was you able to find a opening in the doors yet? I checked out the link Swez put up and thought I saw a pic of a stripped down door that had some. It was hard to tell though, for you couldn't zoom in on it. Funny thing was all these guys were sinking big bucks but, I haven't seen a kick or door mod yet. Maybe they are there and they're just not concentrating on taking pics of them. Oh well, keep us posted...... lilschtive on 02/4/2006 01:03:14 better yet..i ventured into the door, and didnt find much...no ideal stock hole. But i looked behind the seat to the left and right, and there was a stock 4'' hole..i suprisingly never noticed it.. So i put the ken wood 4'' back there and the blaupunkt 4'' up front. i can hear the difference! here is a picture http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/7145/10061563vb.jpg http://img484.imageshack.us/img484/1890/10061520qx.jpg Ash on 02/4/2006 07:56:29 Yep, that's about it. The same setup I used, just had to amp the front and attenuate the rear to get a better mix. If you try the tweeter option gave before, it should help raise the front sound stage. lilschtive on 02/4/2006 11:39:14 yeah i do notice the front is the same, but i think im set for a while now..were your 4 front speakers running off the hu with an amp? Ash on 02/4/2006 12:40:07 Only the front was amped with a active 12db octave highpass crossover around 250hz. You can cross them a little higher to try and get more volume from them. I doubt it will make a major improvement, though. Are you sure you didn't see a opening? It doesn't have to be a exact speaker (round) hole. As long as you can fit the magnet in the door and the speaker's backwave will fire into the door, it will work. Here's a pic of a 88 stripped down and there's clearly a opening that should hold at least a 5.25". http://www.markljenkins.supanet.com/images/20.JPG lilschtive on 02/5/2006 11:54:26 actually, your probably right. I took off everything but the handle (its screws are really stripped and i was scared it wasnt going to go back on). There was some noticeable areas. But if i were to put them in there, there are 2 things: 1)a lot of extra room around the speaker? 2) whow would i wire through the door? Ash on 02/5/2006 12:22:01 Remember, a baffle can be attached to the door panel with some cosmetics to match the interior. Then some metal screws through the baffle and into the door metal to secure it. The baffle, if cut right, will close off most of the extra space. If needed some damping material can be used on the metal around the hole to finish sealing and cut vibrations. It's a very simple mod that will yield good results. As far as the wire, since there is no electrics in the door, thus no grommet to run them through. You will have to drill holes wide enough in the front doors and cab where the hinges are (not too close) and then put rubber grommets in the holes. The grommets will protect the wires from being chaffed and shorted. If you take the kick panels off, you should be able to see where you can run wires through the cab and to a amp or HU. It's not that hard. Just take your time and map out where and what you need to do so it will work and look neat. Not to mention we all are here to help! I really would like to see you take the crappy stock setup to the next level and I'm sure this will work. Willing to give it a try? THINK Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
