The age of a given piece of gear is not a major concern if all is in working order and the features in this unit are to your satisfaction.

However, it the Blau is giving you some trouble or you really desire a new HU with additional features, then some selective searching is a good thing to consider now.

If you already have an Aftermarket HU in the dash, and there is a harness conversion kit there already, swapping to a newer HU should be pretty straight forward. Just be certain to read the install manual ahead of time, to get a clear picture of what wires go where and any physical adjustments you may need to account for as you swap.

Questions to consider:

1. Does my Blau work well enough now?
2. What other features would I want in a newer HU model?
3. How much do I have to spend?
4. What long term improvements would be my best upgrade options?
(Ie: better speakers, a power amp for them, inline EQ, etc.)

Comments?

Consider Bahns AEQ-6,7 or 8 model linedriver/EQ. It is post HU, and feeds the amps up to 8 volts of input signal power. I have seen the #6 for about $60.00 off flea-bay + S/H. It also has an Aux port for DVD or MP3 players.

This is even dash mountable and gives 4-6 bands of EQ + bass boost. No need to change the HU at all. Just re-wire as needed. The AEQ series needs only 1 pair of RCA inputs and has Front, Rear and Sub outs. You even get separate volume controls for the Mid/Hi's and sub amp feeds.
