alright car audio gods... GRIN
this is what i currently have-
x2 Infinity Kappa 12s

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-SsWhL8ReHBf/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=520&id=features_and_specs&i=108PER121#Tab

and x2 fosgate P2 10inch subs-

actually, i have the fosgates now, but a buddy offer'd me a trade strait-up for the Infinitys, the 12s were 2 big 4 his trunk...
as far as i can tell it seems i would be better off with the 12s, but are these subs a good trade? and what would be the best box for them?

if you have the room for the 12s, i see no reason not to trade. just make sure you listen to them first, get them thumping pretty good and listen to them make sure nothing is wrong with them. they should be a better sq speaker then the RF and with a senitivity of 96 pushing these puppies will be alot easier than the P2s with a 85.5... the infinitys work well in either a sealed or ported application, just depends on what you desire. the infinitys also have a rubber surrond, a lil mor durable and a lil more forgiving if you accidently push somthing up against it.. the foam are a lot easier to puncture or rip... seems like a very good trade for you.... just be careful if you go ported, make sure to have subsonic filiters and give them good clean power. too much power and they will be toast... if you go ported id say 300-500watts will get them pumping to their best.. sealed box a lil more power handling can be expected... what type of music you like???? this can help us determine what will better fit ur needs

well i listen 2 pretty much everything... i'm known as the only real bump'n white boy in my HS in Vegas... but i like 2 rock-out as well... i'm running the Fosgate 900watt 2-channel amp (got cheat'd out of the mono) any suggestions for Ohm settings? (what would be the best way 2 wire them)... i got the room 4 the 12s, so i think its all good... the subs have never even had power put 2 them, i opened them out of the box myself, and the friend is a old trusted friend so i just think i'm pretty freak'n lucky!!!!

are they single or dual voice coil subs?

Ideally, the package is a pair of 4+4 DVC's. That would allow for 1 sub per channel or bridging your amp to MONO and series/parallel wiring to net the targeted 4 ohms needed for bridged subs.

What are the model #'s on your RF amp and these Infinity Subs?

I see the subs noted above are Perfect 12.1's . That's a SVC, 4 ohm model. It can be used just fine if your amp can deliver ~300 Wrms/ch @ 4 ohms per channel.

FYI: With this amp, you cannot bridge it to MONO with these subs. That would net a 2 ohm load and not recommended for this amp as it may heat up too much and go into protect mode too often at high SPL levels.

Yes, I have heard of guys running RF amps at 2 ohms in bridged mode, but it's very hard on the amp and can shorten the life of the amp as well.

i think the old rf amps can take it i had a punch 501s at 2 ohm and it would get warm but never cut out
