Replies (13) ttocs on 01/23/2006 09:39:35 what do you want out of it? swez on 01/23/2006 09:43:14 Ditto... how much bass engine do you want here. Also, how many cf of room do you have for a sub box? Pick one: A. Moderate but solid bass (~300 RMS) B. Strong daily driver (~600 RMS) C. Some serious shaking (1000 RMS) Swez Harvester on 01/24/2006 00:07:53 apprx. 10.67 cubes.............some serious shaking compvr15s on 01/24/2006 02:42:16 for 1000 you can get a pretty nice setup. id recommend the adire audio brahma or the RE XXX.... have a look that these puppies.. they are $250/each and handle 600watts. http://www.edesignaudio.com/product.php?cid=2&cur=USD i think this is a sale price not sure how long they will be this price but for 500 bucks you could have 2 18s for tons of thunderous bass, and still have 500 for a decent amp.... or even the 16inch model for 235 each.. have good specs and look simple and decent... also have a look at this company http://www.ascendantaudio.com/index.html new products with new prices, website is not the greatest right now but seem to have very decent subs... good luck just my two cents compvr15s on 01/24/2006 02:47:45 http://www.cardomain.com/shoplist~b~Orion~t~Subwoofers huge sale on good woofers have a look swez on 01/24/2006 07:27:10 Heard some very good things about the Orion H2 series subs in the past few months. The lower prices make this option a very attractive option. Same thing with the RE subs. These bad boyz really make a whole lotta shakin with enough power. In either case, a single 15 or 18 can bring some serious thunder to your ride. Yes, dual 12's are an option too. Just depends on your space and how much amping power your electricals can handle as is. This amp would be a nice powerhouse for your bass engine system. It provides a solid 1200 Wrms into a 1 ohm load. It's Class D design gives good efficiency as well. Note the amp is fused at 40A x 3 fuses. That tells us this amp is serious about delivering high SPL to low ohmic loads. (1 ohm) It also has an onboard SSF for ported enclosures. That's a nice plus as well. 1 H2 series Sub 15.2 (2+2 DVC) ........$225.00 1 Orion 1200d Amp....................$330.00 That's $555.00 and free shipping too. Now, you have some extra cash on hand for a #2 wiring kit, enclosure and ALT/BAT upgrades as well. Wait for some comments from POwerLifter as well. He's been doing a lot of custom SPL Bass designs lately and am sure he can give you some "hands on" experience to guide you to a solid SPL performance package. Swez Harvester on 01/24/2006 23:30:07 I am still lost as to what a #2 wiring kit is.... jazzbass on 01/25/2006 00:09:25 I would guess he means a wiring kit using 2 gauge wire for the main power and ground leads. FYI take a good look at what your alternator/battery can handle. That's a pretty big current draw you're talking about. swez on 01/25/2006 11:30:50 Yes, 2 gage power feed and ground are recommended for this amp. Especially if you have a full range amp in use as well. Do you know the output of that stock ALT and what is the CCA rating on your present BAT? P0werLifter on 01/25/2006 18:38:23 Good suggestions here so far guys. So far I've ran both the 15" Orion H2 15.2 and the Resonant Engineering 15" XXX. Both have sounded excellent. I actually havent tested the H2 yet in a ported application but I will sometime soon. However the XXX i've only ran ported and I love it. Main thing here is getting enough power to meet the demands of the woofer. The H2 is reccomended at 2000watts RMS and the XXX is 1600watts rms. Ive ran the H2 at 2000 and it takes every bit of it, Ive ran the XXX at 1800-2000 and takes it just fine. With $1000 budgeted for the system, you have to remember to take in account the wiring, cost of the electrical upgrades, not to mension the installation materials (wood, glue, screws, etc). Id start looking around at some high output alternators, and a new battery to get those up to par 1st. Then start buying components. From what Ive heard the >2005 model XXX is no long in production, and the new model hasnt started in production just yet. (dont quote me, you'd have to call RE to check). The Orion h2's are a great buy right now, along with their amps. I'd also check out the Stereo Integrity Mag D2' subwoofers. Couple guys I know are running them in the lanes. They sound good, get loud, and fairly good price. The Adire Brahmas get loud and sound awesome too, everything just comes down to your own personal preference. (http://www.stereointegrity.com/subwoofers.html) Just remember, make sure you electrical system will keep up with the demands of the amplifier, and the amplifier needs to keep up with the demand of the woofer. -PL BgDustin4 on 01/25/2006 21:51:32 i say Kove i love there subs the Armageddon ones they are kinda high in price but i had one for 2and1/2 years and never had any trubel out of it just something to look at http://koveaudio.com/cart/product_info.php?cPath=8&products_id=12 Harvester on 01/25/2006 23:09:52 the alternator is rated at 70 amps and the battery is 875 cold and 1000 above 32. swez on 01/26/2006 08:23:46 It looks like you will be in serious need of ALT upgrades if you go with the larger Bass Engine package and a Mid/Hi amp to go along with the package. That large BAT may help, as well as using the "Big 3" wiring upgrade mentioned earlier. But the vehicle needs about 40-50 amperes of current to operate your normal devices like lights, HVAC, Computer monitoring systems and the like. The balance remaining can power a modest Full Range amp, but not handle the Bass engine package we are talking about. To get this system fully powered up, figure on a 175 -200A ALT upgrade. www.motorcityreman.com is a good place to start looking for same. Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
