I’m wondering if anyone else has had experience with Harman’s warrantee service. I purchased one of their factory-reconditioned amps from cardomain.com. When I got around to installing it the clip indication light wasn’t working. It was hardly a big deal but I figured since I paid for it … so I sent it back. Well, they’ve had the thing for two weeks now and they don’t plan on having shipping information on my replacement for another three weeks. A month seems a bit excessive; and I imagine by the time I have the thing in hand (shipping and all) I will have been out an amp for 6 weeks, if I’m lucky, perhaps longer. I’m hoping they send a new replacement. Judging by the quality of their repair work on this recondition amp I can’t get too excited about them just ‘fixing’ it again. This is the second piece of factory-reconditioned equipment I’ve purchased. The first was a set of Klipsch 2.1 THX certified computer speakers. They didn’t work so hot either but I’ve just lived with their deficiencies. I don’t think I’ll be buy reconditioned again, warrantee or not. Really, what good is the warrantee when it just runs out while your equipment sits around the factory? Replies (5) MrBrownstone on 01/19/2006 13:22:34 ahhhhhh...welcome to online car audio. In most cases, when I ran my site, I would just send/reorder another replacement product, and the customer would never know that i waited 5-15 weeks for MY replacement. It's really up to cardomain (or any retailer) to honor their own service to you....but for Manufacturers, that's probably average. Keep in mind, they (Harmon) probably didn't service that unit, and probably are just sending it to another refurb company that does 1000s of products just like yours each month. swez on 01/19/2006 13:51:21 Right! Some sites offer an "inhouse" warrantee service plan. They can either fix it at their facility, farm it out locally or send it back to the OEM that made it originally. If you have a common item and CD has others in stock, ask them to ship you one. If they don't have stock on that item... you'll just have to wait. Swez pigwiggle on 01/19/2006 14:44:54 I reread my post and think it may look as if I’m having hassles with cardomain.com . I have been very pleased with the service I’ve received from them. Since the amp was under factory warrantee I just sent it to Harmon; didn’t bother with cardomain.com . The whole situation sucks. I bought it this summer long before I needed it. The deal was too good to pass; $120 for a $375 msrp amp. So, it’s already like 6 months into a 1-year warrantee before I find out it isn’t working properly. Lesson learned. swez on 01/19/2006 14:54:08 Yeah, there are much harder lessons in life than this. Keep things in perspective and all will be well inside. Swez PS "Well before you needed it"? This is not a true need... it's a desire and a preference that has been deferred for a time. That just means when it comes back and in full working order, it will be appreciated so much more right? MrBrownstone on 01/19/2006 21:38:45 I'd always track it back to the place you bought it from, but odds are, they wouldn't probably directly replace a $120 amp out of stock or go through the hassle of factory exchange...especially on a refurb. Part of the trouble of refurbs is that the quality control/inspection process doesn't exist. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
