FROWN : I got a '98 silverado extended cab 4x p/u and am looking at new audio. can anyone help me out with wiring idea's ? I am thinking of putting a 7 or 8 circut fuse block in the eng room and then running pwr to verious items from there. Items I am looking at pwring are: CB, SAT Radio, emerg red light (Vol FF/EMT) and maybe a remote cd changer. Looking to get a pioneer DEH3800m add a amp or 2 and then go from there. Thank you in advance for any and all help,

Well, that's a bit out of out general forum topic focus, but since you said HU, amps and speakers too, I guess we can address it.

The most important aspect of your plan, is to provide adequate power for all AUX lighting, CB, SatNet and audio gear. That may mean a larger output ALT, BAT and main wires feeds that may be inadequate from a stock truck.

Add up the current draw from all AUX devices you plan to install. Also, plan on using relays for high current devices. Most automotive switches can take a 10A device fine. But if that circuit feeds several items that exceed 10A., then a relay is recommended.

How much audio amping power are you thinking here? Once you know the power demands of the systems you plan to install, and know what the stock electrical system can manage, then we can advise you on how to proceed.

I hope you have a good background in 12 volt electronic systems. That will help a lot.

Swez, I have a fairly decent background.... worked on cars most my life and am a Aircraft Line maintenance Tech for a major cargo airline. I am thinking 2 1000 or 1500 watt amps. nothing to blow windows but a little power. I think the normal 10 amp for the radio, sat receiver , cb and the rotating light should be ok. I have grown out of the "lot of lights stadge". the radio is standard pioneer DEH-P5800MP 22 watts with peak at 50. able to do the mp3 so I can discard the cd changer. Just looking to get some good sound. trying to figure out how to build a 10" woofer box for an extended cab, Should I use relays for everything just to be safe ???? thanks and apologize for being off forum topic.

Ryan2.... Cool I been here about 9 yrs now. moved from Alaska...

ttocs.... I know a couple guys in the wasau area that moved here from Alaska.... Thanks all

We use RMS wattage (continous power) ratings as the bench mark for amp power ratings. (Peak watts info is not used)

A solid 5 channel can do some good here, if you don't need a shake the mirror off your truck type system. There are many good amps out there and one I am familiar with, is from Alpine. The MRV-F450 offers 50 x 4 RMS for full range and 200 RMS (4 ohms) for sub(s).

This is a very nice all-in-one amp package. It's current draw is under 60A at full power too. A single 10" sub in a well designed enclosure, can give you very good bass performance. Especially in a port tune box.

This is an older amp from Alpine, but there out there and a good market price would be well under $300.00.
