My subs finally came in and the manual says nothing about recommended box volume....here is all the info it gave.....
Pyle (PLSQ12D) 12" 1400 Watt Square Woofer

Product Features:
Silver Special Treated Polyproplene Cone
Wide Rubber Surround
Black Square Steel Basket
Bumped & Vanted Extended Pole Piece
3" High Tempeature Kapton Voice Coil
4 Ohm Impedance
70 + 70 oz. Magnet Structure
SPL: 90 dB
1400 Watts Peak Power
Overall Diameter: 13"
Mounting Depth: 6.34"
Fs (Hz) 26
Qms 5.81
Qes 0.90
Qts 0.7

Could someone tell me how to figure out the box volume from this....i am going with a sealed enclosure. I used winISD and the alpha version says 59 cubic feet and the beta version says 206 cubic feet (dats a beeg bawks!) anywayz i called the manufacturers and the tech support is gone for the week or something.......frustrating........

I like pickles

The Fs and Qes tells us the EBP = ~29. Anything under 50, is sealed only. Now we know you should use a sealed box for these subs.

I ran some number with a Qtc between 0.707 and 1.0. The box volumes suck! A small box @ 1.0 Qtc = Vb of 7.3 ft^3 per sub. A large box @ 0.707 Qtc = Vb of infinity or a free air sub in a large trunk.

Frankly, I would ask for an RMA and look at some other brands. There is no useable info off the Pyle site and without some input from Tech Service, we're playing in the dark. (Blind leading the blind)

PS Big mistake on this purchase Harvester. Best to return subs, cut your losses and try a new approach here.

Thanks for your help swez I appreciate it

Sorry for the bad news there Harvester. I looked at several options on that sub product and all came up with HUGE sealed boxes. If you can return them and get your money back, that would be the best option. If that is not possible, the other coarse of action is to contact Pyle for usable sealed box designs.

If you have a HT project that can support a pair of huge Fb subs, that is one option for using them. Even a bass player could probably use them for stage bass or even moderate SPL sound reinforcement applications. It would be nice to know the actual RMS power handling input each sub can take. Could be anywhere between 300-800 Wrms/sub, depending on how they derived the peak watts numbers.

FYI: These are high compliance subs. (if I read the T/S specs correctly) That means the motor system is very active and takes minimal RMS watts to get the cones moving a great deal.

In a large box, it may take very minimal RMS power to hit X-max on these subs. The voice coils may take a good deal of RMS power, but the motor structure is so free flowing in a large box, they will probably bottom out at very low RMS power input at a given frequency range.

Again, sorry to put rain on your parade,
Swez

Looks like these subs were designed for Free Air ( Infinite baffle use ), I am sure they will perform better in Free air application then most other types of enclosure.

Isobarik definitely is a good option here...will also give an increase in power handling, and cleaner sound..

As swez said, if an enclosure @1.0 Q is almost 7.3cu.ft, then u could use 2 subs in isobarik loading and make a smaller box of around 3.75 cu.ft ( internal dimensions, sealed enclosure ), u can use either face to face, or ,back to back , or even linear loading here

If u are able to sell them off at e-bay then it seems to be the best possible option..

hope this helps..

Victor..

So you guys dont think that they will be any good at all if I just put them in a 2cubic foot box sealed.....if not then i guess ill find someone to buy them

swez on 01/12/2006 00:47:20
It sure looks like "offing them", is the best way to recover some of the expense here. If you can list them as new, unopend boxes, they will probably fetch a few $$ more than if you tried them out in a box and found them to be totally lacking.

That settles it....thanks

Harvester on 01/12/2006 00:55:36
maybe i can trade them for pickles

swez on 01/12/2006 04:36:57
Know a few pregnant women who are craving pickles? Sure looks like I should invest pickles as I can see a spike in the demand as long as you are around. GRIN

Gotta love those Kosher dills on a good manly sandwich!

I will probably go back to the single 15 idea....after I get these sold...little woman wont let me go further without gettin rid of these...right now i have a pair of 12 inch hyper pro's....Im not without...

P0werLifter on 01/13/2006 00:05:46
I Love single sub Setups. Ive ran two different single 15" Setups in the past year or two. 15" XXX and a 15" Orion H2. Both get loud and clear as I'm sure many others will do GRIN

Harvester on 01/13/2006 00:38:19
I think Im gonna go with a PowerAcoustik Fubr

P0werLifter on 01/13/2006 04:30:05
I've ran a pair of PowerAcoustik MOFO series. Never had a problem with them. No personal experience with the Fubr tho.

Harvester on 01/13/2006 16:55:30
My best friend runs 4 of the FUBAR 12's....they bump pretty darn good.......

Hey do ya have to have a gold medal lookin thing to be able to put the grayed words next to your name?

swez on 01/13/2006 21:15:11
Pretty sure that feature is reserved for Golds only at the moment.

If you go into "Edit my Information" take a look and see if you see a box for that feature. If not, it's Golds only for now.
