Is it safe to play speakers continuously at the highest and lowest frequency range they are rated at? Replies (3) ttocs on 01/3/2006 10:47:20 safe for the speakers or the person? As long as the power is kept clean I don't think it will hurt the speakers. MrBrownstone on 01/3/2006 15:41:15 speakers are harmed by 2 things, Power and heat. As long as you aren't overpowering your speakers, you really don't have anything to worry about. Remember, a speaker is dumb--it just does what you say. As long as you don't ask it to run harder than it's capabilities, or, run it too hot, it'll last a long time. A speaker is basically a tennis shoe. However, when you use a speaker, it'll wear out faster, but 4hrs a day 365 days a year at 1/2 of it's capability....for 5 years is a reasonable wear length...most would last way longer, though. Check out here for a more detailed explanation on speaker failure: http://p205.ezboard.com/fcaraudioknowledgefrm7.showMessage?topicID=2.topic Go the RANE article for a more scientific approach. swez on 01/3/2006 16:49:16 Agreed! "Speakers are like sneakers"... they are designed for a specific purpose and if we used them as designed, we can enjoy them for a long time. Power applied, frequency range, enclosure designs used and how much heat builds up, are all factors in pre-mature speaker failures. Also, the quality of the speakers used, has a lot to do with price and performance. How it is used/abused, will also determine how long a product will last. We cannot expect a $50.00 woofer from Pyle, Legacy, or even well branded names to handle what a $400.00 woofer can do. Top line subs from Resonance Engineering, Adire, Orion, JBL, Alpine, RF, MTX and others like them, all have their limits. If we know those limits and abide by them, no reason we cannot expect long life and well above average performance from them too. Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
