i recently went to circuit city to have a new car stereo system installed in my 1986 740 GLE Volvo station wagon....right now my vovlo has a "AM/FM stereo cassette receiver with amplifier, front & rear speakers & power antenna, AM/FM stereo ETR cassette with amplifier and four speakers." or at least according to the volvo site thats what it has...anyways i dont know much about stereos or cars for that matter obviously so the circuit city installation guys told me that because my car has an amplifier and four speakers that it wold cost a lot more to have the stereo intalled because they said there was some sort of majoring rewiring...i'm just wondering if thats true and also if it is is there any way of just caping off the wires to the rear speakers and only hooking up the front speakers at nearly the same cost as if it only had two speakers...sorry this is so long but i just am completly clueless when it comes to anything car related. A volvo of that year could very well have a common ground amp, they are a little more involved. Depending on what/where amp is in the car it could be easy, or worst case scenario you run new wires to each speaker. The problem with that option, is it is normally done after a couple hours of trying to find the amp, and where the grounds are common. Do you know where the amp is trapt? The speakers are in the door if I remember correctly? You could have a deck installed and run new wires to a set of speakers, front or rear. traptw1thin on 12/29/2005 11:14:43 the speakers are in the door and i think the guys at circuit city said that they would have to run new wires...no i dont know where the amp is but im sure either me or my bro could find it(he wouldnt be able to put it in beche doesnt have time) but he could prolly find it for me. if indeed it is true that i have to run new wires how hard would that be for me to do and how much time would it entail. ttocs on 12/29/2005 13:59:34 the hardest part about running the wires would be getting them into the door. If you would be happy with only two, it should be easeir to replace the rear speakers(where are they located?) and run wires to them. I would plan on spending 1-2 hrs myself(deck and 2 speakers and running wires), but I have been installing for almost 10 years now. traptw1thin on 12/30/2005 08:43:15 the rear speakers arein the door as well. ttocs on 12/30/2005 10:37:39 you could always try some surface mount speakers, or 6 x 9"s in a box in the back...
