The Big 3

Alrighty, Since I'm updating my system for the next wave of gear I thought Id post this lil snipit on the Big 3.

If you run into problems with light dimming, or feel like you should upgrade your battery/alternator 1st try upgrading the Big 3. What exactly is the "Big 3" you might ask? Its simple, when we refer to the "Big 3", were talking about 3 wires under your hood.

1: Alternator to Battery
2: Battery to Ground
3: Engine to Ground

By upgrading these wires from your weak stock wiring you allow more amperage/voltage through, eleminating one weak link in your electrical system. Think of it as a pipe, the small guage wiring that came on your vehicle is a small diameter pipe allowing only a little water through it. No matter what the pressure (Voltage) generated at the pump (alternator), your only going to be able to allow a small amount of water to flow (amperes) through.

By upgrading to a larger diameter of pipe, your allowing more water to flow through with less restriction. Hence eleminating minor light dimming, and supplying your battery and stereo system with an unrestricted flow of juice. If you still hjave dimming, upgrade your battery to a high CCA (cold cranking amp) Battery then upgrade your alternator.

Heres some pictures of my system upgraded to 0guage wiring. Overkill for most, but a must for me.

Follow the wires =)

Red= Power
Brown= Ground

Onto the pictures:

Well done bud... hope we get this put in the DIY section too.

How much electrical tape did you use on these wires? (30 feet) Can you get shrink tubing in that diameter? That would look great in offsetting colors or just plain black.

Nice work and thanks for sharing!

Very good pics! That makes it self explanatory.

GRIN Swez I didnt use THAT much electrical tape haha. Not sure if they have shrink tubing for 0 gauge wire but I did order 3/4" split loom tubing and should be here next week to cover the wires.

Victor..if you have some magical power to move the thread to the DIY section, do it. I'm still waiting for Walt to get back to me about the pictures I sent him for me to type this up as an article. Untill then...the Bump will work. Seeing new faces on the forum and this is useful information for them. Thanks

well, all you can do is host them on imageshack or other free picture hosting site and link them on to the article you write..

like LC1 did for swez and me on this one..

Putting up full pics will consume a lot of bandwidth, so this is an easier way out, it will show small sized pic icons, which will open up when clicked.
