alright... i just hooked up my 900watt fosgate 2ch amp with my x2 10inch power akustic subs... when the head unit is set up to max bass and the bass knob is at full... my 10 disk CD player skips alot... whats this all about?? the only thing i can remotely think of that could remotely cause this is power... shoud i instal a cap. to add power 2 my system?? (what the hell is a cap. anyways?) -Drew Replies (19) ttocs on 12/27/2005 09:46:21 caps are little more then a band aid for a much bigger problem. Money that you are thinking about spending on a cap would be better used to get a better battery, or by getting the wire needed for the big 3 upgrade. You should not have your bass and gain all the way up. By doing this you make it very easy for the signal to get clipped and you can blow a speaker. How solidly is the deck mounted and what kind is it? often vibrations from the subs can cause a deck to skip. newB on 12/27/2005 20:25:02 newB on 12/27/2005 20:26:07 well... its a kenwood deck, i don't no the exact specs. but it has a 10 disk changer under my seat... its not bolted down, so i'll try to put someting around it... or bolt it down... thanx... -Drew MrBrownstone on 12/28/2005 02:05:59 A cap.... http://p205.ezboard.com/fcaraudioknowledgefrm7.showMessage?topicID=33.topic MrBrownstone on 12/28/2005 02:07:47 In a sentence, a capacitor is a storage device. Over the years, people have come up with mucho audio jewelry, and a capacitor is no doubt, the most overused one to date. Give the above post a read, and maybe you can tell us if you need one. I only wear a cap when it's cold outside, and Swez does to hide his bald spot. :-) swez on 12/28/2005 05:08:08 Sounds like you may have so much bass energy in the car, that it is making your CD changer skip like a fairy in a Parade. Try re-mounting the player on to a foam pad and see if that helps. Yes, I wear a cap when fishing, playing golf, working outside on cold days and when having a bad hair day. My friend Jennifer, says "You have great guy hair Dave". No bald spots yet and genetically speaking, all my desendants had a full head of hair, well into thier 80's. Good hair genes huh? Swez newB on 12/28/2005 05:27:29 wow guys, thanx, as a temporary and ugly solution i just grabbed a jacket i had on the passanger seat and packed it around the changer deck and it made a minimal improvment... meaning, your right! foam pad huh? sound good 2 me! thanx again... YOUR SITE KICKS ASS!!!!! -Drew ttocs on 12/28/2005 10:58:16 you need to mount the changer solidly to the vehicle to preven vibrations. You got something aginst bald guys B THINK? Everybody who's everybody in electronics--and even nobodies who want to be somebody--will be there. This is a place where new inventions (like digital cameras in the late 1980s) were first displayed to the public. Everything that debuts in electronics will be debutted there. The 2006 audio lines, and future lines. Everything that runs on batteries will be there. What neck of the woods would you be arriving from? MrBrownstone on 12/29/2005 00:21:52 PS over 60,000 booths!!! Everything from 'uber' models to well, stripper models. newB on 12/29/2005 01:43:12 i'm 17 and live in North Las Vegas... what casino is this at? can i just get in (no age limit)? is there a entry fee? lemme know K? -Drew Victor on 12/29/2005 05:20:57 Looks like the Old B's gonna meet the new B in Vegas GRIN ttocs on 12/29/2005 09:40:12 it is for industry, you will need to know some one to get a pass. Try mounting the changer on a board that is secured to floor pan. Between the board and changer, try a 2" thick foam pad "sandwich". To secure the changer to the board, consider a flat bungee strap. Make it tight enough to hold the changer securely, but not so tight that it compresses the foam pad more than 1/2" or so. If you used metal mounting brackets, it may transfer too much vibration to the changer and negate the dampening affect of the padded substrate.
