what does dynomat do and is it worth it? Replies (3) Ash on 12/20/2005 15:55:02 It is a vibration and sound insulation for the auto environment. There are several different types dependent upon application. It can be well worth it if your auto exhibits high road noise, panel vibrations, and such as these can waste amp power in an effort to overcome them. Check the FAQ at their website, it will answer most of what you want to know: http://www.dynamat.com/car_faq.htm P0werLifter on 12/20/2005 19:14:30 There are tone of different products that do the same thing as Dynamat. Some as good, some better, some worse, personally I prefer using BrownBread (www.B-quiet.com). Dynamat itself, is not worth the price in my opinion since there are tons of other options. However the process of soundeadening an automobile IS worth the cost and time involved. -PL MrBrownstone on 12/20/2005 21:22:00 If you want an 'expert' opinion, put your hand on the part that rattles, if it stops, ANYTHING that weighs as much as your hand will help. By anything, I mean: Mud Cow dung Cake mix Bread dough Your girlfriends butt....tell her it needs to be naked :-) Basically, your car rattles because sound energy is converted. Your vehicle is made of metal, and when it flexes, vibrations are converted to sounds. You can add mass to any part of your vehicle, and that will add to the amount of sound energy needed to rattle the vehicle. Other things you can do are to strengthen parts of the vehicle so that it won't flex as much. However, the cheapest way is to fil all the little gaps between surfaces that are vibrating with some clear silicone (think bathroom tub sealer) or use expandafoam. That, and adding mass to the panels inside the vehicle. PS I recommend the silicone unless you are very familiar with expandafoam--because it's not very forgiving. PPS Just keep in mind, ANYTHING that weighs the same as your hand is equally effective in reducing the unwanted vibrations. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
