I'm just wondering if anyone sees any problems with hooking up a pair of alpine sps-100a and a pair of alpine sps171a to a performance teknique icbm771 amp. The amp is a hand-me-down so i don't know it's specs, hence the question. I was also wondering if there were any disadvantages of hooking up both speakers to this amp. I'm also worried that the amp's wattage may be too high for the speakers.

you are wanting to hook up both your front and rear speakers, is that what you are asking... yes this can be done, if you hook up front and rear Left on channel one and then front and rear Right on channel two, you will be dropping from a 4ohm load to a 2ohm load(will draw more electrical current, this amp is rated at 120watts rmsX2@2ohms so about 60 watts per speaker, just have to be careful with gain settings.) the only bad thing here is no fade, you wont be able to adjust towards the front or rear..

here is a link to that amp

Well, for starters, the amp might be a little too high. Yet it could be overrated somewhat as well. I looked up the specs and could not find at what voltage the power is rated at??!!! You could take a gamble and try them on the Alpine 6.5" (sps171a) comp set. They are rated for 50rms per channel so you will have to watch your amp settings.

As far as running both pairs, I really don't recommend it for one is a 4" and the other a 6.5". Both will need different crossover settings & watts as well. If you are running the comp set as your mains then I would amp them and then use HU power on the 4"s for they will only need about 15-20 watts to sound decent. Just put a set of bass blockers on the 4"s around 200-300hz if possible.

That amp has some nice sub features though. If you want, you could opt for a more power matching 4 channel amp (50-60rms x 4) for the Alpines and then use the PT to run a single 200rms 4 ohm sub (maybe a 10") if you already haven't got a sub setup.
