Hey swez..ash and every1 else..I GOT THE BOXES IN! they i great..but i have not turned them on yet..im still installijng im going to use 1 mtx and both Jl's..should i do i tri mount with the mtx as the main? OR is there a way i can mount all 4 speakers? thansk! Replies (23) P0werLifter on 12/14/2005 21:36:22 Could you elaborate please? How many cu ft are the enclosures....what type of amp do you have? etc. You have to make sure everything is kosher b4 you attempt to wire everything up. CuFt has to be enough per woofer and the wiring has to match the working ohm range of the amplifier. Ash on 12/14/2005 21:54:06 If I remember correctly, he is talking about the prefab boxes that he ordered for the Mazda pickup. When did you decide to add to the JL's? I really don't think you will need all that in the small cab space. Two competent subs should be plenty. lilschtive on 12/15/2005 15:53:31 yeah thats my car with the prefab boxes..Im going to hook up the @ jls and then 1 mtx..does this hookup look safe? check it out. www.bcae1.com/trimode.htm Ash on 12/15/2005 17:38:01 Why are going to add more subs when the JL's are already enough? No, it is not safe for there are too many variables in your configuration that will complicate and even damage things. Just stick to the original plan. lilschtive on 12/15/2005 18:47:42 well...here it is..i kind of really want that mtx in, and swez said a while back that if i had 2 speakers, that tri-mode would be ok...so i tried it, and it sounded ok.it was nice and loud. but i was smart enough not to push it...i know i know its bad and all, but it worked..do you think ill be ok.. compvr15s on 12/15/2005 20:37:37 lil, i think you should just stick with the two jl's. there is no way that mtx makes that much of a difference, if so then you have something wrong with your other subs... we are here to help you but if you keep counterdicting us what is the point of us trying to keep helping you... there is no reason you can not use the mtx sub but there is no reason for it. set you amp to run the jls to there best and you should be happy. we are not here to tell you what to or not to do but in many cases we know what can and most likely will happen. good luck P0werLifter on 12/15/2005 23:28:33 Run the two JL audios. Saves alot of hassle and you wont notice a difference between running the 2JL's and running the MTX with them. As for the wiring diagram, I believe that is for running component speakers along with a sub woofer. I would NOT suggest running your subs in that manner to the amplifier. Red flags are waving. If you dont heed the warnings of some of the people on the website, dont be supprized when they dont respond to the requests. Goodluck Ash on 12/16/2005 09:00:30 In trimode, the speaker that is bridged will receive more power than the satelites. Plus the bridged speaker load will have to be 8 ohms while the satelite are 4 ohm. Like PL said, this type of setup is used for one amp systems that are running both highs and sub(s). You will blow that amp eventually if you do run all subs! Why ask for help when your not going to use it? Realize that all of us don't get paid for what we do. We do it for the love of the hobby and some even as a career. However, that means that most of us have limited time to spend on the boards each day and to continue to contradict, irritate and waste peoples time & patience; will mean that eventually the ones you need help from might just cut you off from them. I would hate to see that happen, because I know you are still learning. Just try and trust these guys in what they say. Ash on 12/16/2005 09:46:14 Excuse my venting, but I must express my concern for you. Exactly what is the problem that you have with just running the JL's? Is there not enough bass for you? Perhaps you will have to settle for opting for a more powerful setup. If that's what you want then I'm sure we can help with that and try to find you one with a reasonable price. lilschtive on 12/16/2005 14:49:32 ok i get the point...im just a kid and i just wanted more..but i can't because the car is too small. I'll stick with the JL's..I always want more bass but i dont have the space/proper stuff for it. Ash on 12/16/2005 15:22:45 In order to get more bass, you have to be willing to use a more powerful setup. You might can use the same boxes if time is taken to do the research. It's all up to you to decide to spend more money to get the proper "tools for the job". If not, then you'll have to settle for what you got in the mean time. Don't feel alone there "homey". We all have budget constraints that limit what we would like to have. What counts in the end is being smart about what you can get and how to use it. If we all had bottomless pockets, then we probably would end up at some local shop getting ripped off with what they say is the "gospel"... That is why we all have arrived at CK! lilschtive on 12/17/2005 14:10:30 ok guys...im about to break down and cry right now...i...i...i shouldve listened.....the unthinkable happened..my amp blew out.. it was sounded good with the mtx and 2 jks! until the next day it wasnt sounding as loud..then i tried unhoking stuffand the speakers didnt make any noise...im bummed and i shoudlve listened because i blew my amp, and mayube ym speakers.. do you think i blew my speakers too? lilschtive on 12/17/2005 14:17:35 im a stupid idot kid i shouldve never done this...and the thin is, my brother comes home today and i had it all up for him to see! so i bascially ruined my amp im guessing, and i have to get a new one? lilschtive on 12/17/2005 14:17:51 And i wont be suprised if any of you don't talk P0werLifter on 12/17/2005 15:19:25 ............. lilschtive on 12/17/2005 15:58:40 my speakers work, and im assuming i broke my amp lilschtive on 12/17/2005 15:59:01 i know your here to help me, but you dont have to get all mad over a mistake i made Ash on 12/17/2005 16:39:30 Calm down little fella and let's take some steps to see what's wrong. We know you made a mistake by not listening and I'm quite sure you have learned your lesson so let's move on. Luckily I have a kind heart. Now explain as fully as possible what happened.... lilschtive on 12/17/2005 17:02:56 OK...here i am waiting for my brother to come back from colorado.. i had the mtx and the 2 JL's mounted on the day before..they worked fine this is how i put them on: Left: negative & positive (had mtx and 1 jl Right: negaitve and positive (1 JL) i played it, and it wasnt sounding as loud for some reason...i switched a few wires, it still wasn'nt loud. and then when i was just using the JL's , they werent loud so i switcehd the postive and negatives aorund to see what it sounded like..didnt work...i ran it trying to turn up volume and stuff amnd it just went down and no sound worked..i took them into my room, and plugged it into a cd player, and they worked...im happy the subs survived, but my brand new amp is ruined and my brother doesnt know.. :( Ash on 12/17/2005 17:27:46 Well, I'm a bit confused about the wiring you done, but did you check to see if any fuses on the amp or battery to amp wire are blown? lilschtive on 12/17/2005 17:49:36 omg omg omg omg...this is so ironic how all this is happening..after i posted, i went to get see it again..i knew there were switches on the back of the amp such as "hlf, ful" and something else.it was on the top one, the bottom one makes it sound like crap, and the middle rocks ass!!! i switched it to the middle, and for some reason it kicks even LOUDER! idk what happened with the MTX but i am STICKING TO ONLY THE JL'S. it was a simple gain/testing problem. even though i somehow did smehting to the amp, it works fine now.what do you think it was? Ash on 12/17/2005 18:34:32 Not sure, your explanations aren't that clear. What you need to do is stop rushing, and take time to setup correctly. ttocs on 12/17/2005 20:39:16 does the amp light up? those switches are probably for the crossovers. If they are not set right you can blow your speakers. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
