os it worth it to up grade your battery when you put a system in....like should i put in one of those optimum batteries that 'claims' to be better Replies (6) Victor on 12/12/2005 04:20:37 well it depends on what kinda system you are running. upgrading a battery usually does help,, and yes those claims made by optima are not just claims. They perform. Ash on 12/12/2005 05:43:01 Usually, you can improve things with a higher capacity battery and wire upgrade, if you are running a somewhat hefty amp setup and are experiencing problems like: voltage sag, headlights/interior lights dimming when the bass hits, battery gets weak frequently, or alternator burning out. Other times with a real power hungry setup, a wire upgrade, high output alternator, and/or even isolator/two battery setup, would have to be in effect. It's all going to depend on the power requirement of the entire setup you are running. The less you have to add will be better on the pockets of course. A wire upgrade (Big 3 explained in tutorials) will be the most economical, with the battery being next in line. After that it gets quite expensive and can require professional help. What setup are you running now and what problems are you experiencing? Maybe we can point you in the right direction. ralter649 on 12/12/2005 15:04:05 im pulling about 700 watts rms out of 2 amps and ive got the big 3 but the lights dim when im at idle (1000 rpms) when i have more than 2500 rpms no lights dim so i was hopin to solve the problem with a battery upgrade but i was told an optima battery was great buy some people and a waste by others cybersailor420 on 12/12/2005 16:18:21 i recently got one, and i too have done the big 3 upgrade. not only did my voltage stable out dramatically at higher volumes, but my constant voltage also increased. i have the yellow top 750CCA, because that's all they sell where i live. i would suggest getting one of their higher rated yellow tops (900 or 1250 CCA). either way, you will be happy and should notice a difference. if you don't have an accurate (digital) volt meter in your car, use a multimeter and do some tests before and after. by the way, i'm pulling about 200 amps... if i noticed a difference, you should as well. -Ian- Ash on 12/12/2005 18:05:56 What is the output of your alternator and battery capacity you are now running as compared to what is the total fuse rating for the all equipment you are running off the battery? From there can be determined how far you need to go. With 700 rms (if that's truly what you're putting out), hopefully a batt' upgrade will be all you need. lessismorespl on 12/13/2005 12:06:44 A battery upgrade will greatly enhance the performance. The Big 3 Upgrade works besdt w/ deep cycle batteries b/c they can hold a charge longer and dischargeit quicker than typical batteries. less Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
