hey guys Que pasa well i think I figured what kind of amp I need for my L5 Kickers 2+2 (lol now I know what im talkin about) I didn't want to spend much I heard diffrent things about the kicker amp and the rockfordfossgate amps how are the Hifonics amps are they good PS if you know any other amps to go with the subs I have (1) ONLY thats a mono and has 600 RMS or more that isnt like $600 let me know

one more question is it true if my speakers are 600 RMS and the amp is 600 RMS the amp will over heat and then shut off??

HiFonics will do you fine. I havnt heard any complaints about Kicker amplifiers, same with with RF amps. I use to run them when I was just getting into Car Audio and didnt have any problems.

Regarding your question about the RMS value of your speakers matched to the amp..... If your speakers are 600watts RMS, and your amplifier is 600watts RMS, its a perfect match. Your amplifier will provide the recommended continous power for the speakers and will not be going past its limits.

HiFonics makes some very dependable amps. Not overly pricey, solid performance and pretty rugged contruction too. The new BX-605 is a possible choice here. Have a look:

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_3490.html

Good power here. (600 Wrms @ 1 ohm) Is fused at 60A, a clean Class A/B circuit design, variable Low Pass Filter (LPF) and a variable Sub Sonic Filter (SSF) as well. Nice package for the price too! $135.00 + S/H.

This is probably one of the best deals I have seen in a long time for >500 watt amps, from a well know mfg.

PS There is a huge amount of mis-information out there on car audio gear. Much of it comes from the BIG BOX stores who hire inexperienced sales people. Yes, a few people who have been in the biz for a few years are probably "very competent". But, most newbies and wanna bees just don't have the techical background to help novice buyers. That's where well established forums such as CK, can help the novice buyer.

blkrsx on 12/4/2005 21:12:46
hey knaw I heared good stuff and bad about the other brands and i hear hifonics were good from people and sales people obviously in the stores don't recommend it but the other brands are obviously more would you guyz recommend me to get the kicker or the rf or go with the hifonics??? ps what would you get ???

compvr15s on 12/4/2005 23:01:47
i personally have 2 kicker kx600.1 amps. 600 watts mono power at 2 ohm.. have never had any problems with either amp, they have not over heated, actaully have not even got hot, and i run my music at almost full tilt when i listen to it... have had times where its been ran for 3-4hrs and never even felt warm... i have no comment on the RF amps, i know they are not what they used to be but that dont mean they are bad... have also heard very good reviews on hifonics.... i would tend to stay away from pyle, legacy, sony, crunch. ya know the lower end brands, i would not put sony anywhere near the others mentioned but they are definitly towards the bottom of my list... for the price hifonics would probably be the best choice as it will perform just as well as the other two and more than likely you will save 20-40% compared to the kicker or RF..

after posting all of this i realized that your sub is a dual 2omh sub so 1omh or 4ohm wiring is needed. that hifonics that swez mentioned is a perfect match at 1 omh... but if you do decide to look else where make sure you look for RMS power, rated around 600 watts at either 1 ohm or 4omh... many mono amps are rated for 2ohm minimal operation, trying to wire a 1 omh load is not safe for the amp...

Victor on 12/4/2005 23:12:02
have a look at the JBL GTO 601.1

swez on 12/5/2005 00:41:31
Victor, she needs a 1 or 4 ohm amp here. The JBL 601.1 is indeed a fine amp at 2 ohms. However, she needs an amp that is stable and rated at 1 ohm, 600 Wrms. (1 sub, 2+2 DVC Kicker L5 12" sub)

The HiFonics amp noted, (BX-605) is 1 ohm stable, 600 Wrms (@ 1 ohm) and has all the key features one needs. It's only $135.00. The JBL 601.1 is NOT 1 ohm stable, and more than 2x that price. Not a best fit here right?

You all know I am partial to the older JBL BP-600.1 amp. This darn amp is almost "bullet proof" and will do 1 & 2 ohm loads. However, they are harder to find then "hen's teeth" and don't have a SSF. If one can find a refurb at under $150.00 and does not need an SSF, that would be my choice too.

BLKRSX: Have you determined the enclosure you want to use for your L5 sub? Sealed will give you good lows and good punchy bass in a 1.0 - 1.5 ft^3 sealed box. If you desire more deep bass and less punch, a ported box will do the job well. What kind of bass do you prefer?

1. Lots of deep lows (at high volume)
2. Punch and good lows
3. A blend of both

The type of enclousure you choose, can be be modified to give a good blend or a focus on on one or the other.

Swez

blkrsx on 12/7/2005 19:43:51
well the sub came in a box i like a blend of both I like a lot of thump so I guess the demisions for the box should be good cause it was made for the speakers?????

swez on 12/7/2005 21:38:13
That might be true if the box was made by someone who followed Kicker's specs on this sub. Only one way to find out... hook up an amp and have a go at it.

Swez

blkrsx on 12/8/2005 13:44:51

well, i am running to 15 inch memphis in a sealed box in my trunk. I have a 4000 watt 2channel Lanzar amp pushing them. I've had lots of Lanzar equipment and I'm not too fond of their subs but they do have badass amps if u ask me. With what I have right now i'm very happy with considering i got them at a steal, only costing my a total of 800 bucks and thats the subs n box, amp on subs, head unit, tweets, door speakers, and amp on door speakers and tweets. Everyone knocks cheap amps but i bet if they tried out this Lanzar amp I got, it'll blow their subs right away. i've already blown two memphis 15s, the same kind i got right now and they were good and broke in. I cant turn my amp up more than to where its pushing about 3000 watts peak or ill blow them again. look all im saying is that my 4000 watt lanzar is pretty badass and it only cost me $180 after shipping and everything, but thats on ebay and its never been used before me. U should try it out. its a good amp. I had it hooked up to a friends 22inch jackhammer and it made it hit harder that his JL Audio 6000 watt amp. its a badass amp. ive had other Lanzar amps and theyve all done good for me

compvr15s on 12/27/2005 03:51:26
the reason you blew the old subs you had was probably because the amp you have was clipping horrible, was not over powering them, the voice coils probably got to hot and cooked.... not trying to knock your equipment, but i promise your lanzar amp is not pushing no more then 500-800 watts... they place 3000-4000 watts on them to get the unexperienced people to buy them.... im sure they do a decent job for their price.... have had no personal experience with that brand but they definitly over-rate their products like pyle, dual, other like brands....

did JL come out with a new amp??? did not know they had a power house like that... and i really hope ur buddy did not hook that amp upto a $5000-8000 sub woofer.... there are very few amps that i know many people on this site would even think about hooking to that sub if they owned one... i personally dont see the need to spend that much money on a single woofer or entire system for that matter... if using that woofer for spl comps, im sure its a beast but as for an every day driver it would be useless.. and for that money if you had the vehicle to hold a lot of speakers you could spend way less and get better results in spl terms....

but im not tryin to say lanzar should be avoided by any means. probably perform well under normal use, with normal power being needed by speakers... just tryin to say be careful. it can say one thing and do another not very reliable when reading specs like that....

Ash on 12/27/2005 07:25:06
One thing to remember is that almost all manufacturers market different product lines. Their goal is, of course, to make money. The best way to do that is target everyone, from people on a budget, to eccentric audiophiles, and everyone in between.

As a consumer it is your job to choose what will fit you and understand it's limitations. No installer or salesman can tell you what is good to your ears, only you. If it works for you, then it works, period! If you want better then, of course, spend more. With the proper knowledge and resources, you can save dough along the way.

You ever notice the same ones that bash, often "push" certain products that they claim is the "gospel" which at times can be out of reach for some individuals pockets. This is along the lines of a salesman. Is a Lexus better than a Ford Pinto? In many ways, yes. Can everyone afford a lexus, no. So guess what, the Pinto still has use within it's limits, and it still get's you from point A to point B.

The key here is knowing the equipment's real limits and how to best utilize what you can afford.

Hummm, see this one got buried in the mass of new posts.

Hope finals went well for you... now, take a deep breath and relax.

Need to know more about your sub(s) here. "I need for my L5 Kickers 2+2 ". I get the 2+2 part fine, but is that 1 or 2 subs you plan to use here?

If you say 1 Kicker L5, that HiFonics amp mentioned earlier, is a good match in power and features.

However, if you have 2 subs here, that's a horse of a different color. This means a 2 ohm stable amp is required. If this is the 12" version, they can handle 600 watts (RMS) per sub.

Was in Brooksville/Springhill area from the 8th to the 20th. Drove my aging parents down to their winter place and hung around for a while to get things in order for them.

They are on the Gulf side, about 40 miles due north of Tampa. The winds and hurricans did some minor trim damage that I was able to repair and also had to work on thier Heat/AC unit. LOL, that sucker was filled up with many gallons of water and backed up into the air inlets. Turns out, there was a lot of debris in the drain pan, grills and condenser coils. It could not drain properly and just backed up. That was fun huh? Oh... the joys of being the resident "handyman".

Where are you in FL?
Swez

blkrsx on 01/3/2006 19:06:12
Thats tight a handy man & car stereo man.!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Awwwwwwww!! thats really nice you take care of your parents and yea.... sounds like real fun foolin around w/ the AC. lol =)' Its a drive and a 1/2 from MI to Tampa well I am in Ft. Lauderdale ps Thank God nothin happened to my AC I would have been cryin because it is way warmer down here compared to Tampa and peeps down here had to wait for almost 3 weeks with out power aaaaand then they had no air cuz the repair people were all booked up peeps couldn't get appts for a month later it was pretty bad down here the whole hurricane thing sucked I had to wait in line for gas for 4 hrs and the line moved an inch each time. I drive a manual trani.you can imagin how that must have been I was so mad. This was the first time I experienced a hurricane so bad =(

Yep, gotta take good care of the folks now. They changed many diapers, fixed boo-boo's and set me straight when I was off target. Now, it's my turn to give a little back to them. I do it with joy!

Traffic jams on a stick are no fun. You should try it on a steep & slippery hill. Now, that takes some skill and common sense. (Oh my aching left leg... LOL)

Tell me RSX.... you've gotta be a goil right? I mean, that as a good thing 'cause we don't get many females on this site. Not that we mind at all. It's just rare to have females interested in car audio. It's a well know fact that car audio is a male obsession. It takes all our time, much of our $$$ and leaves most g/f feeling ignored, neglected or tuned out by the extreme SPL.

MI to Brooksville is 1150 miles on the most direct route. The biggest hassle is of coarse, in Atlanta, GA. Gotta watch the bypass signs, crazy drivers weaving in and out and heavy traffic too. Once that stretch is done, kick up the jams, sing, play air guitars and drums if ya like. The rest of the journey is pretty mundane, but pleasing to the eye.

Hey, what's the employment situation like in SE Florida? Am weary of running a dying business as a handyman etc. MI is dying on the vine as displaced autoworkers flood the "unenjoyment lines". We have an official UE rate of 7.5%. However, the real numbers are more like 3x that.

Have been in Tech Sales most of my years of employ. Primarily in Outside Sales, Regional Sales Mgt and was a Product Marketing Manager for one of the Regional Electronics disty's. Have been a self-employed contractor for the past 5.5 years. It's great when there's enough work available. But now that MI's economy is so "on the rocks", am thinking a relocation may be best.

PS Am getting a bit too worn out for heavy manual labor jobs now. Takes too much out of me with not enough return to call it a great prospect anymore. I like the work, but it just takes too much out of this old fart. COFFEE

blkrsx on 01/3/2006 21:16:44
LOL well you old fart j/k your not an old fart! Im guessin goil means girl? well yea I have always enjoyed thumps in car trunks (LOL) well I am the only girl in practally my whole family I only have boy cuzs and thats about it so I have always been into cars mom tells me I never played with dolls when I was younger I played with cars! well... besides I get along with guyz better. swez on 01/4/2006 10:31:48
LOL, I get the picture a bit better now. Thought you were a girl as writing style is much different than most males. (very spontanous)

Last g/f was a lot like you mentioned. She too, had brothers and learned to hang with the guys more than gals. If her truck needed fixing, she'd climb right in and learn/help, get her hands dirty and break a nail or two if needed.

"Honey, I need some help getting this oil filter and drain bolt loose, can ya lend me some male umphh?" Sure baby... gotta few rags and is the oil drip pan in the right location too? (need a 9/16" socket for the drain plug too) The only time I chased her off, was doing her brakes. I was pretty cranky that day... having a bad time of it and frustrated was all. She just walked home (about 1 mile) and I called her when it was done and took the truck back to her place. We made up and just pressed on. Yes, I behaved like a jerk that day... but not toward her! That project is not one of my favs.

The best part of our time together, has got to be the absents of excessive "DRAMA". Most guys live just fine w/o it. Seems like most of my present female friends, live on Drama. Dunno, it must be mostly a female thing? Males are not so wrapped up in emotions and relationships with high drama. In fact, we often leave the scene before the event blows in and hope it "all comes out in the wash", by the time we come back.

But, if she needs to talk it out, "OK... spill it out on the table and we'll clean up the mess when it's over". That works pretty well, most of the time if men would just listen and don't try to "FIX" it all. Let the women vent her emotions... take it all with a grain of salt and just listen with some degree of interest, give her some encouragement and a big hug when the storm blows over. (works for me, most of the time anyway)

Work prospects: Lazy? You bet I am! After 10 years in manual labor jobs, 20 years in a white shirt, tie and suit and now 6 more years in heavy labor work, the ol body is telling me enough is enough pal!

After a bad motorcycle accident in 1978, (almost met my Maker) the knees and back don't like heavy manual labor much anymore. My Dad harped on me to use my brain and not my back. He was right! It puts a different kind of stress on person, but it kept my hands clean, body aches were minimal and the pay scales are much better too. Thanks for the input and tips gal!

Swez

PS When my parents are in MI, am there for them as needed. ( A lot!!!) They are wonderful peeps and I am happy to help out. They are now in thier late 70's, physical and mental health issues are popping up all over the place. It's kinda nice to get 5 months of "off duty" time each year.

PSS They don't call me "Old Man Audio" for nuthin ya know! Just turned 50 and hope for at least 35 more good years, if all goes well. Am still pretty active at this age 'cause I did not burn out the ol body with almost 30 years of work in manual labor jobs.

Most of my HS friends that work in construction, auto workers (line jobs etc.) are all washed up and aged well beyond their years past mid-40's. That's like 20+ years of working fer da Boss Man. Their bodies are shot, rarely developed much beyond HS mentally and just burn their bodies up for a hard earned buck. Now I understand why so many of them, go on disabilty leaves when possible. Their bodies can regroup, they still have a good income and sometime to think about the future.

blkrsx on 01/4/2006 18:26:05
Yea thanks I don't like to talk about by sponatous ways lol well yea you need a break tooooooo taking care of your parents and all well rest up and seriously take a look online for the job types your looking for it will only make it easier

PS I love bikes I kinda suck at it I attempted to drive a ninja * I think 600 cc I can't make turns on it even if my life depeneded on it lol its to heavy and I am short so I can't reach the gears very well LOL it was funny yet scary when I tried to make a turn on it welll...... thats good your gf sounds alot like my friends and I ready to get down right and dirty!!!

Ps I think you have have found the key ingredient to figuring a girl out keep it up "OlD mAn AuDiO" lol =)'

swez on 01/4/2006 19:52:41
The "Key Ingredient" to any healthy relationship... Let other's be themselves. It works and I only hope I remember that at all times. It really brings the ol strife and blood pressure levels down.

"Spontinaity" is a wonderful quality in a personality. As long it has some well thought out boundaries and integrity. One would hope ol Swez keeps some of that alive at all times. When the tank gets low, find another friend to help fill it back up. (within reason)

You ride too huh? That's really cool... I see couples out on their bikes a lot in summer here. It's really neat to share that kind of fun. I still like bikes, but not in town. Out in the country is cool, before the critters come out to forage.

Short? Not in spirit, or so it seems. SMILE Am 6'3'' and appreciate the extra viewing height. It also helps in my present hobby... fly fishing. Can spot those wiley fish at a distance, have a long casting arc and toss a long lined fly to the lil buggers.

It's great being out in the stream, late in the day and after dark. We see so many critters, hear many strange calls. (Haron's. Owls, Coons, Deer and lots of Geese too) Like to watch the deer come down to drink at dusk too. Momma and her lil fawns are just the most graceful fauna as the sun is going down and the moon is coming over the trees.

What's really a good signal, are bats in the air where we fish. When we see bats, that means a good fly hatch is on. Good fishing tonight! The oddest thing though... they even dive on our flies. Not on the water, but in the casting process. You pick up your line, do a few false casts to get ready for the next drop and "WHACK", the line stops in mid-air for just a second or so. No trees behind to grab the bug. It was a bat. Very strange event and no, never hooked a bat and don't wish to either.

Happy biking and watch out for the 4 wheelers. They don't seem to see cycles very well or just have attitudes. Keep working at leaning as you turn. A few safety courses are also a great help.
