I was reading in my local paper that last week in the USA there were chrismas sales on and that on the saturday 60 million people went shopping and each spent $302.87 on average, i worked tha out to something like 18 billion! Thats more than my countries GDP....LOL!

"What's Christmas all about? THINK"

Retailer's and merchants would like us to think it's about spending $$$ on stuff we cannot afford, (to give to people we don't like, who in turn, take it back after Christmas) to get what they did want.

Personally, Christmas is about family and friends getting together, swapping a "few quality gifts" and sharing stories. You know.... connecting well with the folks we care about most.

Most of all, it can be a good time to reflect on our lives this year.

What we did well ...
Who we met new...
What needs to be improved upon...
How we made a difference to others...
Where do we aim our sites for next year?

Old man Swez is a Christian. (and proud of it) But, by no means a perfect one either. I take time to reflect on the good things that have come this year. I also look at where I can improve things in my immediate circle of friends and family. I also count my blessings and thank our Creator for his guidance, protection and direction.

This year has been full of wonderful experiences and a few hard lessons as well. However, even the hard times can become a blessing, if we learn from them and can help others (walk beside them in times of trouble) and to avoid the same things.

This little christian child's song says it all... "Jesus loves me this I know... Cuz the bible tells me so".

A thought: This has been a very difficult year for millions of folks that were hit by Katrina and Rita. We also have 300,000 men and women overseas, serving in the military. (Brothers, sisters, Mothers and Fathers or a friend we might know) Showing them that we appreciate their suffering, losses and sacrifices would be a very good thing.

Consider giving to the Red Cross, Salvation Army or an organization that supports these people in great need. Go serve food in a Soup Kitchen for the homeless or perhaps help build a home for a needy family via Habitat for Humanity. Whatever we choose, make it a gift that lasts and makes a difference. It feels good to help others and know we did something good, for those who are not as well off this Christmas. What do we get in return? The blessings that come from doing something that made a difference, in someone elses life!

Celebrate!
Swez
