Im building a box for 1 12 and its temporary. It's going in the bed of a truck. The sub will be downfiring, so how can i make the box waterproof? Replies (7) swez on 11/27/2005 15:44:37 Fiberglass and epoxy based paints are very water proof. Same with auto body paints and clear coats. If you go downfiring, make it so the sub has a clearance of 2-4" from the bed. It would be good to angle the box so it fires out and to the back of the bed. Make sure you used a weather proof woofer too. A paper cone will absorb mositure and fall apart on you in time. Swez PS I assume you will have the bed covered with a cap or similar? ilovebass123 on 11/27/2005 15:59:02 Im using an Orion H2. Is it weatherproof? lilschtive on 11/27/2005 18:40:01 even if the Orion H2 is weatherproof, i would still recommendsome sort of cover to go over it swez on 11/27/2005 20:46:08 Better than a paper cone. This sub has a NBR surround, dual spiders and some kind of non-paper cone material. These are all pretty muchl moisture resistant. However, a water proof cover over the box is a very good idea. Even integrating the sub box into one of those enclosed work box kits would be very helpful. Some air vents in the bottom will allow bass to come out. A thin layer of open cell, sponge foam sheeting would make a decent dust and moisture barrier. If you are very good with wood, can make a custom setup that hangs on your side rails, a piano hinge system and use Marine grade Plywood. It's weather resistant, easy to tool and you can make it all in a single sheet. A few coats of Marine grade clear coat, epoxy paint or Valspar Marine varnish, should do a fine job.
