I have had my 2001 F350 broken into for the 3rd time because of the ease of entry door handles that can be opened with an ice pick or screwdriver. The last stereo I installed in the glove box to keep it out of sight, but they got in there too. Is there a unit that can be installed under the rear seat and still have control of the radio and possibly a c/d changer. I already have a box and amp behind and under one side but to get them out you have to remove the seat. HELP! Replies (9) swez on 11/23/2005 14:23:05 May wish to consider using a HU with IR remote and install into a good lock box. (some venting recommended) Also, reinstall the stock HU so it looks like you gave up and went back to a stock system. If you haven't done so yet, consider tinting your windows as well. Out of site, out of mind in most cases. However, people in your neighborhood or at work, may be the culprits. The less they hear or know about your intstall, the better. Other things to consider are: 1. Use a keyless entry system (remove/disable the key locks) 2. Install an alarm and keyless entry system 3. If that is not possible, just install a blinking RED LED in plain site and some alarm stickers in visable places 4. The only other way to enter the vehicle then, would be to smash a window or climb in the rear vent window I have seen kits to lock the rear windows. However, they are not going to be very effective against a serious thief. Any other thoughs guys? Swez ttocs on 11/23/2005 16:43:19 what kind of alarm do you have? BPuentes on 11/28/2005 09:11:44 Not sure of the brand name but it works with my key less remote. It happened at the wal mart in corpus christi. The alarm was set and the stock unit is still in the dash. It was just a grab what you can, the radio was in the glove box, but ford does not put a key in them in the truck. I am so tired of fords better ideas. I remember a radio that had a remote that came up on the side of the seat on a cable. Its been quite a while. BPuentes on 12/13/2005 09:12:03 BPuentes on 12/13/2005 09:18:21 I found a radio with a changer that is totally hidden from sight. We installed it this last weekend. It is called secretaudio made by custom audio. The remote works off of RF and will work outside of the vehicle also. The remote is a little cheezy looking but it works. It sounds great and is out of sight from prying eyes. They will have to take the truck now to find it. I also installed rear door handles on the front of my f350 and they do not have any key holes to push in and open the doors. ttocs on 12/13/2005 16:57:28 is that the flip remote? BPuentes on 12/15/2005 09:11:13 Yes it looks like a small cell phone. MrBrownstone on 12/16/2005 17:47:10 just a little helpful advice. Start with changing where you park your vehicle, get an alarms, and if that doesn't work, quit putting a system in for a while. Here's a top 10 list of things you can do to keep thieves out...all are free: 10. Play music at a reasonable level several blocks from where you park 9. Don't put ridiculous stickers on your vehicles indicating you'd like to be ripped off (i.e. Alpine, Rockford, etc.) 8. Use standard rims, or modest factory replacements 7. Don't play your system for people in the neighborhood 6. Leave it empty for a while. 5. Activate your alarm 4. Park it somewhere else where it won't be recognized 3. Save the money you'd spend on stereos equipment on an alarm 2. Find out from anyone in your neighborhood who's boosting stuff 1. booby trap your installation with worthless equipment. Honestly, you may want to consider waiting til you change vehicles before installing anything again. Either where you park it, or HOW you park it is the reason you are getting ripped off. An alarm will not stop thieves from trying, just make it known they are trying--and that may be enough. pigwiggle on 12/16/2005 19:17:41 “1. booby trap your installation with worthless equipment.” I replaced the crappy stock CD player in my Subaru with my new HU. I also gutted the old factory HU to make room for all the peripheral crap; XM controller and so forth. When I remove my HU faceplate it looks stock. I can also place the old factory CD molding over the new HU and it looks stock. And of course all my speakers are well hidden. They guy desperate enough to steal a stock Subaru setup is going to hit it big. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
