I've recently installed a 2004, DEH-p6700 headunit. In my 1993 Plymouth Colt vista. It worked fine. I up graded the interconnect wires to a set of Low-noise Monstercables. When I pulled the head unit out of the dash so I could plug in the monster cables, somehoew I've lost all sound. I have power to the stereo, it goes through all the motions of working, reading the disc, playing the disc, the whole nine. However i have NO sound at all. Ive checked all the obvious options. Like a loose speaker wire, and everthing seems to solid and secure. What could i possibly do next ?? It was working fine, and then All Of A sudden no sound. What could I trouble shoot or check to fix this issue ?? Replies (9) trunkisloud on 11/11/2005 11:52:51 is all of your speakers powerd by an amp?? if so then check your remote wire....it may have disconnected when you removed the deck....you say you ran monster cable rca's ..if your remote is solid then try running your old rca's again to make sure the new ones arent defective..... swez on 11/11/2005 14:15:18 Wait for one of our install tech to check in. They may havea few simple tests for you. Ttocs, UK Installer are the go to guys on this subject matter. Swez SlyBumpin on 11/11/2005 14:49:36 How do I get in touch with one of the tech's ? This is all new to me ? Worse case senerio I'll break it down and take it to a shop. I just dont trust to many people these days to do me Honest and I hate to throw good money away if its something simple that i can Rectify myself. Its the weirdest thing I tell ya, one minute its working great, and then I had to get smart and decide to install Monster Cables, wich I totally believe in, but what could I have possibly done! ??? asplundher on 11/11/2005 15:27:43 More than likely it is something simple. If you take your time and go back and check all connections you might find the problem. I don't see the rca's being bad like that though. Usually it's one side that is bad, not both. A simple continuity test on the rca plug with a voltmeter could determine if they are bad. You might have to take them out for that. Are you running a amp to all speakers? Turn the HU on and check to see if the amp powers up. If not, then the remote turn wire might have come loose when you pulled the deck. Check that first and see what's up. BgDustin4 on 11/11/2005 17:14:25 errrrr i did the same thing it mite have blown the internal amp like mine did i don't know how i did it but i did it swez on 11/11/2005 17:45:18 The techs mentioned will find you. Chances of blowing the HU amps are rare unless we short the speaker (+) lines to ground. In this case, there are 4 of them. If they were well secured during the initial install, may be a loose harness connection or try hitting the reset button if this unit has one. Worst case scenario, say you did blow the internal amps on the HU. If the RCA outs work (different circuits) you can always add out board amplification to all speakers and subs. Can walk you through that process. A good 4 channel and separate sub amp will get better results and sound much cleaner at high listening levels too. Swez Ash on 11/11/2005 18:12:00 He mentioned interconnects, so I assumed the speakers were amped. Like swez said; even if the HU amp is blown, it still should not affect the rca's signal unless the whole HU is bad which I doubt. swez on 11/12/2005 08:00:44 OK, let's focus on testing that Pioneer HU for now. It may be as simple as a blown fuse or complex as a damaged amplifier set. Since you already have the HU out of the vehicle, all you need to bench test it initially are: 1. Power supply (12 volt car battery) 2. Known good speakers ( 1 or 2 is adequate, 4- 8 ohms is fine) 3. Some #12-16 hook up wire 4. Inline fuse (10-15A w/ pigtails) 5. Wire nuts (yellow size is fine) NOTE: All bare wires not mentioned in this test, should be taped off with electrical tape so they cannot short. Each unused wire needs to be wrapped individually. A 1/2" tab of tape, folded over the exposed wires should be fine. (NO BARE WIRES EXPOSED) Steps: a. Attach speaker(s) to front channels of HU (via speaker harness b. Combine Red & Yellow power feed lines and one side of the inline fuse (use a wire nut for now) See diagram below: Bat Pos (+)---------{fuse holder}------(wire nut) =======Red/yellow power lines to HU (Remove fuse for now) c. Connect ground wire from HU to Neg (-) on BAT post d. Install fuse and turn on the HU; initial set up menus may need to be reset to work properly (refer to user's manual) e. Pop in a CD and see if the HU will deliver audio to speakers off front channels (we sure hope so) f. Shut off HU, hook speakers up to rear channels and repeat audio tests (hopefully, you get audio here too) You will not get AM/FM here as there is no antenna. You should get a CD player to work, if all connections are correct. If you get no audio during this initial test, pull the fuse and look in manual for a reset button. If there is one, re-insert fuse, press the reset function button and see what happens now. If you get audio this way, the HU is fine and no permanent damage to internal amplifiers. If no audio is heard, you may have fried the internal amps. The back up options are: 1. Send the HU out for repairs 2. Forget the HU amps and go with external amps off the RCA's. Try this plan, out of the car to avoid shorted wires and other variables. FYI: Send wifey/kiddos or other distractions out to Mikey D's for 2 hours of peace and quiet. If this works when tests are completed, have a fine cigar on hand and perhaps a snifter of Brandy if you like. You've earned a moment of celebratioin time! Report your findings after these tests. We'll walk you through various options, after you report your findings. Don't reinstall the HU back into the vehicle just yet. Some additional tests may need to be done before you do so. Swez COFFEE PS Since stock HU works and you hear music, it seems like car speakers, wiring harness and OEM wiring harnesses are fine. That's something to cheer about for now. ttocs on 11/12/2005 11:47:11 when you put everything back together, did you add any other equipment other then the cables? Do the amps still turn on? If one of the speaker wires is grounding out the entire amp will shut down to protect it. Some decks have a reset button that needs to be pushed after pwr is disconnected. It is normally a small button that you need a pen to push, could be on the face or behind it. I'll check back later to see how things are progressing.
