i have 2 jl 10s (the 3v2s) in a prowedge jl box....in an old system i ran a single orion 10....the 1 orion was great and i ran it at 0-125hz ...the 2 jls i have have alot better bass at the 0-60hz range but when i start getting above that it distorts alot quicker.....is there anything i can do to get the jls to handle the 0-125hz better? thank you guys for all the help you have given me in the past and hopefully in the future Replies (3) swez on 11/11/2005 06:35:51 The 3v2 comes in 3 voice coil configurations. 1. Dual 2 ohm coils 2. Dual 4 ohm coils 3. Dual 6 ohm coils Do you know which model Power Wedge enclosure you have now? Also, what is the net ohmic load to the amp is here? (measured by an ohmeter) I suspect it may be your amp is struggling with upper bass frequencies, due to the ohmic load the amp is seeing at these frequencies. (high harmonic distortion values?) Are we talking that Eclipse 2 channel amp as the power source for your subs? Since the Power Wedge is available in sealed or vented, tuned port design, you may also need a sub sonic filter to block signals below port tuned frequency of this enclosure. If using a sealed version, an SSF is not required. There are a number of scenarios that could be causing this problem. The one I am looking at first is amp "clipping" above about 60 Hz. The more info you provide, the better we can help you. Swez ralter649 on 11/11/2005 14:11:16 the box is sealed, the subs are dual voice coil 4ohms, the are wired in parallel (4ohms mono) and i am using the same amp i used to run the orion sub (its the eclpis 33230) ....the orion was single voice coil 4ohms and i ran it at 4ohms in a sealed box swez on 11/11/2005 14:23:15 That all seems straight up enough if you bridge the Eclipse amp to MONO, you'll get best power that way. Try these 2 items and see if it improves things: 1. Set your LPF at about 80 Hz. (normal value for most sub applications) 2. Check your gain settings on this amp (typical settings are 2-4 volts) 3. Use no bass boost at amplifer If that does not improve things, try reverse wiring your subs to amp. This will reverse polarity between subs and interior car speakers. If it sounds louder and cleaner, that should solve the problem. If you note weaker bass this way, return wiring polarity to original setup. Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
