If you do not have a battery in the system after the RV is started, there is a danger of burning out your electrical system. A BAT needs to be there to help the ALT's regulator home in on a steady charging rate.

Warning: NEVER RUN A VEHICLE ON JUST THE ALT. ALWAYS HAVE A BATTERY ATTACHED TO THE CHARGING CIRCUIT !!!

When a good BAT is installed in the system, the voltage meter will normally read in the high 14.? volts range until the starter BAT is fully recharged. After that has been accomplished, the ALT/Regulator will adjust ALT output based on pwer needs of the vehicle. A nominal voltage of 13.5 - 13.8 is normal in a healthy electrical system.

If the voltmeter consistantly reads above 15 volts, the regulator may be malfunctioning. That is typically housed inside the ALT. A full diagnostics check of ALT, BAT and general charging system is recommended.
