thats definitely a tough comparison... Polk c400.4 is a damn clean and solid amp, so is the alpine.

I have heard a setup with the polk mmc6500 and the c400.4 and the thing sounds damn clean and crisp.

heres a link to the new alpine MRV 545...

I used to sell polk some time back, and i was really impressed with almost all of their products.. specially the Momo speakers..and the amps..

The alpine give u 125wrms@4ohms@14.4volts , the polk does 75wrms@4ohms@14.4volts.

the polk got better S/N ratio>105db vs the Alpines 95db ( 95 is very good too),but if u got an Alpine HU then the alpine amp is Link ready and Bass engine ready so u can tweak the amp with the HU and its gonna be more facilitating to get an alpine amp.

Both the amps are made with top quality components and high grade engineering. so it is tough to point out one out of the two, it definitely becomes a matter of personal choice and power requirement.

I think you will find the Polk speakers to be a very good option here. They make great speakers and have been doing so for over 30 years. They are a bit new to making car audio amplifiers though. Very pricey gear though.

Alpine makes some very nice products as well. They have been making fine audio gear for many years as well. Their amps are time tested and very reliable. They are priced well in the market and service on Alpine amps are pretty easy to arrange.

My take on this one is to go with an Alpine amp to match your HU and use Polk speakers if you wish. As with all audio installs, the speakers are the key element to what you hear. The main difference will be the install techniques used. The speakers that sound best to you... are the speaker to buy. The amp used, is less an issue than most folks think.

Amp power, reliability, reputation and features are what we look for. Weigh that all out and count the costs as well. For most installs, there is very little sonic difference between a 75 VS 100 Wrms amp. The 100 x 4 just uses more current, but not much audiable SPL. (about 1dB more is all)

Hope that helps,
Swez

many thanks

but i have few points to discuss:

1. i got the polk momo c400.4 as a secend hand but for the alpine mrv-540 i need to squeez my budget tight to purchase a new one

2. i'm planning for a new install right now (stage 2) and i'm takeing it slowly to choose the best HU,components, amps , subs , rca's & wiring that suit my budget and taste.

3. i alredy purchased the alpine mrd-501, monster cable rca(competition series) for speakers and subs and still more coming soon.

so what you suggest to go for the polk momo c400.4 right !!!

Errrr, uhmmmm, dohhhh...

Gee O.T.: That's seems like an obvious choice. Use the amps you have on hand. Neither amp mentioned is inferior, if in full working order.

1. Go with the Polk c400.4 for your full range speakers
2. Use the MRD-M501 as your sub amp (2 ohms min pls)

The amplifiers are not the key ingredients in any quality install. The speakers and install methods are. These are the "bread & butter" to any quality system.

The Alpine M501 is fused at 60A. Same with the Polk C400.4. Powering both of these puppies to full potential is going to require some electrical upgrades. A stought BAT and the "Big 3" wires upgrade are minimum here. You may need a H.O. ALT as well.

Save your pennies as this system has a lot of potential, but won't be cheap either.

"""The amplifiers are not the key ingredients in any quality install.""""

May be you can Re-think....

Ofcourse not in this case cause here both the amps compared are Powerful, clean and from reputed manufacturers with quality components, but this is not a general scenario...

"Garbage in , is Garbage out"

Yes Victor, you are always on the ball! LOL

I said that in this case as each amplifier noted is of very high quality and performs to specs or better.

If he were talking Pyle, SPL, Legacy or other low end brands, my comments would be a bit different.

PS GI... GO applies to most good things in life. But here, good products will stand on their own merits.
