ok i was hitting my sub hard last night and i have a fuse in my ground wire to it is only a 8 ga ground wire and i have a 4 ga power wire shuld i ues 4 ga to ground it to or shuld it be fine with it is thanks a lot Dustin Swors Replies (5) asplundher on 11/4/2005 13:57:01 Most definitely your ground should always be at least the same size as the main power wire. Change that out as soon as possible. On the other hand, why do you have a fuse on the ground wire? Never heard of that one before. I'm no electrician, but I don't see that as neccessary. The only fuse to the amp should be on the +/batt wire and on the amp itself if equipped. BgDustin4 on 11/4/2005 14:06:56 i don't know i will ahnge it today asplundher on 11/4/2005 14:37:22 Try to keep the ground as short as possible with a solid connection to the frame/body. Make sure the fuse is of the correct value and you shouldn't have problems in that area. swez on 11/4/2005 14:49:48 If all you on hand is #8 wire, just use 2 of them as the ground to your amp. Otherwise, go for a #4 ground as well. If the amp is low power (50A or less, a #8 is fine) However, if that amp draws above 50A's, use a #4. WARNING Will Robinson, DANGER... DANGER: NEVER FUSE A GROUND RETURN WIRE !!! If the fuse blows, the amp will try to find a new grounding reference (like the RCA cables) to HU. Now, all that power is running a return path that was never designed to handle high power. DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT !!!
