It is not a bad design but it does has a big con if your a SPL freak. The main advantages are of course half the space for one driver and the cancellation of nonlinearties (sounds cleaner somewhat). Yet, on the other hand, since both subs are playing as one, you will not get the advantage of the air two subs can move(not as loud). One thing overlooked as well: they are butt ugly unless the design is one which both are inside the enclosure. This also presents a problem as cooling for the sub in front is minimized, causing it to possibly overheat quicker than the other at high power levels. And so on, and so on.

It is usually on rare occasional designs that isobaric will be the better choice.

name one? I can't think of any. It's just an optical 'candy' project.

To the best of my research, Iso's are good for larger power handling and impedance matching. This design was more common when we only had 4 ohm SVC's and they typically would crap out at about 300 watts. That assumes one had very little space for a larger dual ported or sealed sub enclosure.

IMHO, they are a neat physics project, but not much more than that.

i had a buddy who have 4 15 inch kicker comps i think, prollay about 5-6ys ago, but anyway he had those in a well built ISOBARIC box running off of a mtx 500D in a civic hatchback... was definitly very loud, can not say about the sound quality, didnt know anything back then other than the louder the better... have not seen this style enclosure around my area for a while.
