I have a 98 ford ranger. I have replaced the stock cd player with pioneer, the 2 back speakers with pioneer, and the 2 door speakers with pioneer. My problem is that the door speakers were blown and I had the music faded all the back. I just bought the 2 new pioneers for my door to replace the blown stock. When i faded the sound equil through out my truck I noticed the rear speakers are no longer playing and I can not get any sound out of them at all now. Even when i fade the sound to the rear, I only get sound out of my subwoofer and not the 6X8's. They had both played before because I had the sound faded to them before I bought the new speakers for my front. Can anyone help tell me what I did that made the rear speakers stop? Maybe they are blown too but they are almost brand new also..

i dont think theyre blown...if they were you would still usually hear music but just real scratchy sounding...did you remove the deck to wire up the door speakers??if so maybe you unhooked a wire or two>??...maybe you have wires touching in the doors...or just backwards...maybe you have 2 of the channels crossed?...check these things....the deck is new right?> then it should be fine still...did you crank the volume too loud and you might be thinking you blew the speakers?...is there an amp on any speakers besides the sub?....if so check the connections on the amp...if not then you may just have a loose wire...did you cut your factory harness to wire up the deck??..check all these things...

see..now that has happened to my speakers...i found out the problem: you most likely blew your amp, or that your amp has internal problems. Its not worth it to fix, so its time to get a new amp..

no no, there is no amp on the speakers just on my sub. its a 10" MTX and a small MTX amp. I took the back speakers out and cut into my stereo in my room and hooked them up and they still play so they are deff not blown. I have had my cd player in the dash for years and the front and back 6X8's both played. the only thing i have done lately is replace the stock door speakers that were blown. I had cut off the harness and used the wires that came with the speakers and wired right to the wires that was connected to the stock speakers. No wire is touching the door or metal or anything just the speaker. I had not taking my cd player out of the dash to install these new door speakers. I simply took the old ones out and hooked up the new ones. I turn on my cd player and drive around the block and noticed no sound from the back 6X8's Why all of a sudden did they stop playing im confused. LOL Do you think I should remove my CD player. This really blows because I fix one problem and now this comes up.

well i have had issues with the pioneer decks in the past ....the channels would go out and all i would have for sound would be the rca outputs...i have had 2 models that this has happened to...one of them being the deh1000...its very likely that this has happened to you..check it out

switch off the HU, press the function button and hold it for 8 seconds, you will hear a beep and a new function menu will come up, scroll using the reverse forward keys until you come upto a function where it will be written RearSP/Full/sub,

check out here if you have it selected to full.

This is a non fading option in most pioneer Head Units, where u can get the rear channels to play only the low frequency or select it to play full range. in some decks it comes set to non fading, it cud be that ur HU wud have reset while u were doing some install and the settings wud have gone back to factory settings.

worth checking out before u try something bigger.

Victor...

Do u have a model number on that CD player ?????

forgot about the fie feature...

Victor on 10/31/2005 03:07:04
yes the fie feature too... check that out..this is a feature pioneer provides for better front staging, it cuts off the low frequency from the front speakers and some mids and highs from the rear , so that the mid range and high frequency performance of the front speaker improves and the mid bass performance of the rear improves.

Basically its a Xover set in the HU between the front and rear speakers. it has named the steps according to the Xover frequency. like FIE 100, FIE 160, FIE 250 etc...

check this out too..

i will check out the HU to see if its selected to full but i would like to add that no sound at all, not even bass was comming from the back speakers. Im so stummped. I thinking of just buying a new cd player because the one I have is amost as old as the truck is.

i went out and held the funct button down for 8 secs and all it did was try to set my clock. i held down all the other buttons and none of them brought up what your talking about. I think the channel is blown out of the cd player. If the speakers were playing before and still work now then im 99% sure that the wire'ing is still good. Any other help/advice would be awesome.

This may be a bit more complex than it appears. You may have a blown speaker, shorted HU amp outputs or some menu problems to work through.

Here's a short list of items to double check:

1. Disconnect the Neg battery terminal for 30 seconds
2. Go back to HU and re-program the HU via menu choices outline in the manual
3. Once you have the system back to default settings, see if you have Balance, Fade and Sub functions working again

If this all checks out, good to go. If not, have to dig deeper in the diagnostics tree. This means checking each speaker connection for shorts to ground and all speakers are in working order. This can be done easily with a common 9 volt battery a single known good speaker.

This involves pulling the HU out of its mounting bracket and removing one pair of speaker wires from their respective channels. Take the stock speaker wires and connect them to 9 volt battery. If they are good, you should hear a clicking/popping sound as you connect/disconnect the battery to those leads. If no sound is heard, you either have a short to ground, a blown voice coil or a bad wiring connections to that speaker.

Also, while the speaker is disconnected, grab a known good speaker and attach it to HU amplifier speaker output. If the HU amp is working properly, you should have sound. That generally rules out HU problems.

If no audio is heard on that channel, there is a problem with the HU menu, amplifier or setup process. Repeat this process with all 4 speakers and HU amps.

Once you have tested all these aspects, come back and tell us your findings.
