Noob Question

Ok... i was given a Kicker 05dc104 (2 10"s in a ported enclosure) as well as a sony class d mono amp (i believe the model is: xm-sd51x)

now, with me being a total noob when it comes to anything electronical, my ? is.... will the amp be adaquate enough to power the sub's? if so how should it be wired?

Im not sure if i will keep the amp or buy another...Ive been told sony makes pretty crappy amps, but honestly im not entering any competitions or anything, so if it atleast works with some decency and means i wont have to spend $, then im fine with it.

here are some specs on both:

Sony XM-sd51x:
1100 w max
250x1 rms into 4 ohms, 20hz - 300 hz @1.0% thd
500x1 rms into 2 ohms, 20hz - 300 hz @1.0% thd

Kicker 05dc104:
600w/300w peak/rms
2 or 4 ohms

thanks in advance!

Hey there. is the sub single or duel voice coil?

i dont think its possible for one DVC sub to be wired at both 2 and 4 ohms, unless its 4+4 and u just wire up one coil.

Hey... thanx for the reply....

and to answer your ?... i honestly dont know whether its single or dvc... cant find those specs anywhere. But here is a link to some of its specs:

Do u think a 2-channel amp bridged whould do a better job than the mono sony?

Those are 2x 4ohm dvc wired for a total impedance of 4ohms, the total wrms of that sub system is 300wrms and that sony monobloc is 250wrms @ 4 ohms... it is well suited for your subs..

a classD monobloc is always better then using a bridged 2 ch amp when u want to power woofers with it.

u are on the right track as of now..

Victor..
